If you’ve been wondering when Far Cry Primal, the 2016 shooter from Ubisoft Montreal, would get a 60 FPS update on consoles, prepare to be pleased! Like Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition before it, the update will be available on January 21st, bringing all three games to a smooth 60 frames per second.
Players on older PlayStation and Xbox consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) will have the option to play at a higher frame rate when playing on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is because the game was originally released on those older consoles, so achieving a 60 frames-per-second rate on them is more challenging.
If you somehow missed it, Far Cry Primal came after Far Cry 4, but it’s a pretty big game – not like the smaller Blood Dragon. It throws you way back to 10,000 BC, and you play as Takkar, part of the Wenja tribe. Everything revolves around crafting – that’s how you get weapons. You’re dealing with both dangerous wildlife, which you can actually tame, and other tribes who are all fighting over land. It’s a constant struggle for survival!
Honestly, this new Far Cry feels really different – in a good way! It’s not quite the explosive action I’m used to, focusing more on just surviving, but it’s a welcome change (you can read our full thoughts in our review). Now that almost every Far Cry game runs smoothly at 60 FPS, I’m getting seriously excited about Far Cry 7! I’ve heard whispers it might be coming in 2026 or 2027, and I’m hoping Ubisoft announces it soon!
