Fate of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Revealed at ABC

Jimmy Kimmel isn’t saying goodbye to late night.

Jimmy Kimmel has signed a new deal to continue hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC through May 2027.

On December 8th, Jimmy shared a post on Instagram with the caption, “Another year of doing absolutely nothing impressive!”

This news arrives as the late-night host is already facing difficulties. His show was taken off the air in September after strong criticism of comments he made during his September 15th monologue concerning the murder involving Charlie Kirk.

The 58-year-old quickly returned to the broadcast and clarified that he absolutely did not support violence, despite what he may have previously said.

Wiping away tears, he told the audience he never meant to downplay the tragedy of the young man’s murder, and that he found nothing humorous about it.

November brought another hardship for Jimmy when his longtime friend and the musical director of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Cleto Escobedo III, passed away at 59.

Jimmy announced the passing of Cleto Escobedo III, his longtime bandleader and a beloved friend, father, son, and musician, in an Instagram post. He described the loss as devastating.

The TV personality shared that she and Cleto have been best friends since childhood. She said working with him every day was a dream come true for both of them.

He also asked everyone to value their friends and remember to pray for Cleto’s family – his wife, children, and parents.

After a difficult year, Jimmy thought about whether he would continue working on the show.

He admitted during a conference in October that he frequently gets asked a certain question, but then often ends up doing the opposite of what he initially says he’ll do.

He explained that with his last three contracts he would say, “This is the last one.”

He explained that he’s stopped voicing his opinions to avoid bothering his team, adding with a laugh that he prefers to simply make a decision and move forward.
