As many predicted, Sony is planning its first State of Play event of 2026 in the near future. Now that we know an event is coming, the focus is shifting to what announcements and reveals we can expect.
It’s always enjoyable to predict what will be shown at events like State of Play. While we can’t know for sure, it’s fun to speculate and make guesses about the announcements during the hour-long presentation.
Here are some early predictions about what to expect in February’s State of Play presentation, to tide you over until the event itself.
007 First Light Shakes and Stirs with New Gameplay
It seems like a good move for Sony to show more of 007 First Light. They previously highlighted it at a State of Play, and now, with the game releasing in a few months, a new gameplay trailer would build anticipation. Hopefully, this trailer will showcase smoother performance than previous footage.
Accessorise Your Life
It’s clear Sony is really focusing on accessories for the PlayStation 5. They’ve done a great job creating a wide range of products, and they still need to announce release dates for the Pulse Elevate speakers and FlexStrike fight stick. With the PS Portal being so popular, many are wondering if we’ll soon see the much-talked-about OLED PS5 model as well.
Ace Combat 8 Takes Off with New Info
Rumors are circulating about a new Ace Combat game, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, and many believe Bandai Namco will officially announce it during the upcoming State of Play. Reports suggest a playtest is planned for soon, and a particularly exciting rumor claims pre-ordering the game might include a remastered version of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. We’re expecting to see a new trailer and details about beta access and pre-order bonuses, and it seems like these expectations are quite realistic.
Control Resonant Takes the Hiss in New Gameplay
Remedy Entertainment is working on Control Resonant, and it looks like it will be their most ambitious game to date. We’re hoping to see it showcased soon, potentially with new gameplay that highlights how it improves upon the original Control. We’re eager to see what they reveal!
Death Stranding 2 on PC Is Hideo Kojima’s Latest Editing Project
Hideo Kojima, known for his cinematic game trailers, is editing something new, likely related to ‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.’ Many suspect this could be a trailer to announce the game’s PC release, and a presentation at the upcoming State of Play event would be a great opportunity to reveal it.
Are We Heading Back to Detroit?
Bryan Dechart, known for playing Connor in Detroit: Become Human, recently shared something online about State of Play that might suggest he’s working on a new project. While he’s proven he can take on many different roles, many fans immediately thought this could mean a remastered version of Detroit: Become Human is coming, and it wouldn’t be shocking if that turned out to be true.
Ghost of Yotei’s Legends Mode Comes Out Swinging
We’ve finally gotten a look at the Legends mode for Ghost of Yotei, and this State of Play presentation was the perfect opportunity. Considering Sucker Punch released the major New Game+ update last year, we expect the multiplayer expansion won’t be too far behind. This makes a release date for Legends – along with a new gameplay trailer – seem very likely.
A Different Perspective on God of War
Man, I’m still kinda holding out hope for a 2D God of War game, like a Metroidvania style one. We’ve been hearing whispers about it for ages, and every time Sony does a presentation, I keep thinking this will be the one. The hype died down a bit recently, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s actually happening. And honestly, if it is real, a State of Play seems like the perfect place to finally reveal it.
Judas Finally Shows Off Some Proper Gameplay
Everyone’s been talking about Judas, the new game from the creator of BioShock, but we haven’t seen much of how it actually plays. After rumors suggested it would come out last year – which didn’t happen – we’re really hoping Ghost Story Games will finally show us some gameplay and maybe even tell us when we can expect it. We’re eager to learn more about this single-player adventure.
Marathon Approaches the Final Stretch with Beta Test
With the release of Marathon just around the corner, we expect Sony to finally announce the beta test soon. Considering the upcoming State of Play event is on a Thursday evening, we predict the beta will likely start the following day, giving PlayStation 5 owners a chance to play it over the weekend.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Finally Lays the Smack Down
It’s been a while since Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was first announced, and fans have been eagerly awaiting more details. We’ve seen a couple of beta tests, but we still only know the eight characters shown in the original trailer. Details about the game’s modes and how it will be structured are still very limited. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about this exciting new fighting game soon.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Unsheathes Its Release Date
Capcom hasn’t shared much news about Onimusha: Way of the Sword since it was announced in 2024. We’ve only seen a little bit of gameplay, so many details about this long-awaited revival are still a mystery. With the game scheduled to release this year, an official release date seems overdue. While Capcom is currently focused on promoting Resident Evil Requiem, they’ll likely need to start advertising Onimusha’s return soon.
Phantom Blade Zero to Hero
If we set aside the hype around GTA 6, Phantom Blade Zero could be one of the year’s biggest releases. It’s expected to be very popular in China, and we think it will also gain a large following worldwide, similar to Black Myth Wukong. Although the game isn’t launching until September, the developers, S-GAME, will likely share a trailer around the Lunar New Year. Given that it’s a major exclusive for the PlayStation 5, Sony might be the first to reveal the trailer – or even all of the game footage.
Is It a State of Play without a PlayStation Plus Update?
Sony often uses these events to announce new PlayStation Plus benefits, and with updates for the Extra and Premium tiers scheduled for Tuesday the 17th, it’s likely we’ll see them highlighted. Given this, we’re guessing the biggest game coming to PS Plus Extra will be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
We Catch a Glimpse of PS5 Pro’s Big PSSR Update
Everyone expects an upgraded PS5 Pro to be revealed later this year, likely with improvements to its image upscaling technology. We might get a first look at it during the upcoming State of Play event, possibly with a demo of a game like Saros to show off the new features for PS5 Pro owners.
Rayman Charges Up a Nostalgia Punch with Remaster
There’s talk that Ubisoft is working on a remastered version of the original Rayman game. Many people remember it fondly as a PlayStation 1 classic, so it could be featured at the next State of Play presentation.
Capcom Gives Us One More Peek at Resident Evil Requiem
The most anticipated game releasing in February is undoubtedly Resident Evil Requiem. Sony and Capcom have a strong partnership, especially when it comes to the Resident Evil series, so it’s not surprising to see more promotion for the game now that it’s almost here. We expect to see either a new gameplay clip or the official launch trailer soon – Requiem is almost guaranteed to be a major focus.
Saros Reminds Us Why Housemarque Is King of Arcade
Sony plans to release Saros in April and will likely showcase it at their upcoming State of Play event. The new third-person shooter from Housemarque, known for its fast-paced action, has only been briefly shown so far. This event would be a perfect chance to reveal more gameplay and build excitement for the game, which is considered a spiritual successor to Returnal.
Starfield Makes a Surprising (But Also Not-So-Surprising) PS5 Appearance
Okay, I’m not totally buying this prediction. It just makes sense to me that if Starfield is coming to PS5, and gets that big 2.0 update, Xbox will announce it at one of their events. But honestly, a reveal at a PlayStation State of Play would create so much more hype! We all know it’s probably happening eventually, so why not make a huge splash?
Time for a Fresh Look at Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Because Tomb Raider has always been popular on PlayStation, it would be natural to see the newest game announced at the recent State of Play event. While there isn’t much concrete evidence, many believe it’s the perfect place to reveal a trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is a remake of the original Lara Croft adventure.
That’s all from our side, but we’d love to hear your thoughts! What games or announcements are you hoping to see at February’s State of Play? Share your predictions in the comments!
