Enough chit-chat: here are our recommendations for the Critics’ Choice sale.

1000xRESIST (PS5)

$13.99/£11.19 (-30%)

1000xRESIST truly shines because of its compelling story. This sci-fi adventure takes place after a devastating alien disease nearly destroys humanity. One immune woman becomes the key to rebuilding society, cloning herself to repopulate the world underground. The game blends the storytelling of visual novels with exploration, and while it’s not particularly difficult to play, the fascinating narrative makes it a truly rewarding experience.

A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5)

$9.99/£8.74 (-75%)

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a delightful surprise, offering a compelling historical adventure with characters you’ll genuinely care about and clever stealth gameplay. While the fantasy elements and the ending might not appeal to all players, Asobo Studio’s impressive use of the PlayStation 5 – including the DualSense controller – makes this a standout title for anyone who enjoys story-driven games.

Age of Mythology: Retold (PS5)

$19.49/£14.61 (-35%)

Age of Mythology: Retold is a beautifully updated version of the classic 2002 strategy game. It features enhanced graphics, redesigned units, and new animations, making it a perfect experience for both longtime fans and new players.

Baldur’s Gate 3 (PS5)

$52.49/£43.49 (-25%)

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an exceptional role-playing game, excelling in nearly every important way. When it’s at its best, it’s one of the most immersive RPGs you can experience. While its deliberate pace might not appeal to all players, it raises the standard for how much freedom it gives you. Your journey to Baldur’s Gate is unforgettable, filled with great characters and a wonderful story. It’s a landmark game that truly defines the genre.

Battlefield 6 (PS5)

$45.49/£45.49 (-35%)

Battlefield 6 delivers an incredible multiplayer experience, drawing you in with its intense action, excellent sound, and the exciting, large-scale battles the series is known for. While the single-player campaign isn’t particularly memorable, and the Portal feature still needs time to shine, they enhance what is easily the best Battlefield game in over ten years.

Black Myth: Wukong (PS5)

$44.99/£41.24 (-25%)

Before its release, Black Myth: Wukong looked incredible, and it largely lives up to the hype. It’s a really fun action game with satisfying character growth, fast-paced combat, and epic boss battles that stand alongside the best in the genre. While a few design choices prevent it from being perfect, it’s a remarkably well-made game from Game Science and leaves us eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Borderlands 3 (PS5)

$5.99/£5.99 (-90%)

Borderlands 3 delivers the classic Gearbox looter-shooter experience, and it’s a visual and gameplay improvement over previous games on the PS5. While it doesn’t drastically change the formula, it’s arguably the best installment in the series yet. Shooting feels fantastic, there’s a huge amount of content with diverse quests and weapons, and the game retains its distinctive, often polarizing, sense of humor. It really stands out on the PS5 with enhanced graphics and smooth performance up to 120fps. If you’re looking for a great co-op shooter, this is hard to beat – it’s incredibly fun with friends, both in person and online.

Borderlands 4 (PS5)

$48.99/£48.99 (-30%)

The latest Borderlands game offers a vast, open world to discover while you search for powerful new weapons and gear. It sticks to the core Borderlands gameplay fans know and love, but with some improvements to make it run more smoothly. If you enjoy the Borderlands style, this game delivers, even if it doesn’t drastically change things up.

Castlevania Dominus Collection (PS5)

$17.49/£13.99 (-30%)

As a longtime Castlevania fan, I always felt like DS owners got the best entries in the series. It’s awesome that PlayStation fans finally get a chance to experience those games with the Castlevania Dominus Collection! It includes four fantastic titles – Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, and Haunted Castle – and there’s so much to explore. Seriously, you can spend hours finding secrets and battling challenging bosses. The pixel art still looks amazing, and I love experimenting with different weapon builds. Plus, the enemy designs are really creative and the maps are a joy to uncover. If you’re into Metroidvanias, you absolutely need to check this collection out – it’s a real gem!

Catherine: Full Body (PS4)

$7.99/£6.99 (-80%)

Catherine: Full Body is a unique and expanded version of Atlus’ original game, blending an interactive story with challenging block puzzles. You play as Vincent, a man in his early thirties struggling with commitment, and his wavering loyalty manifests as bizarre, dangerous nightmares. In these dreams, he must climb treacherous towers of blocks to survive. It’s a strange and thought-provoking game, but the puzzles are surprisingly fun, and the story is captivating when it’s at its best.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector (PS5)

$14.99/£11.99 (-40%)

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is a fantastic improvement over the first game, offering a larger and more engaging RPG experience. Set in a bleak science fiction world, it tells a captivating story focused on its characters. The game’s innovative dice mechanic makes every decision feel risky and meaningful. You’ll journey through different locations, meet a diverse cast of characters, and face challenging side quests that add depth to the main storyline. If you enjoy games with a lot of reading, you’ll find this adventure completely absorbing.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PS5)

$39.99/£35.99 (-20%)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a classic turn-based RPG, drawing inspiration from both modern and older games. It tells a mysterious story about a group of travelers who must stop the dangerous Paintress and her ticking clock as they journey across a magical world. The game boasts strong characters, a compelling story, and a great soundtrack, but the combat is truly special. Each character has unique abilities that work well with the team, and the active combat system – featuring quick-time events and dodging/parrying – keeps battles exciting. While not perfect, Clair Obscur is a must-play for RPG fans.

Cocoon (PS5)

$12.49/£9.99 (-50%)

Cocoon is a beautifully designed puzzle game where you play as a bug-like creature in space. You collect orbs and, by placing them on pedestals, can travel inside them to explore unique worlds. Each orb contains its own puzzles, and you’ll need to move between worlds, even nesting them inside each other, to progress. With incredibly simple controls and no spoken or written instructions, Cocoon is an intuitive, unforgettable experience.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (PS4)

$13.99/£12.24 (-65%)

As a huge fan of the original Crash Team Racing on PlayStation 1, I have to say Nitro-Fueled really delivers! It’s such a fantastic remake, bringing back all the fun of the original with updated graphics and gameplay. I’ve been spending hours drifting around the tracks – the Adventure mode is packed with content, and racing online is a blast. It’s a classic arcade racer at heart – the controls are tight, it’s surprisingly challenging, and there’s so much to unlock. While a few things could have used a bit of a modern update, I honestly think it’s the best kart racing game you can get on PS4.

Date Everything (PS5)

$19.49/£19.49 (-35%)

Date Everything is a unique dating simulator where you can build relationships – friendly or romantic – with surprisingly charming humanoid versions of everyday objects. Boasting impressive artwork and voice acting from popular performers, this lighthearted visual novel offers something to appeal to a wide range of players.
