It’s becoming impossible to keep up with all the new games released, but I’d say I’m pretty well-informed about what’s coming out.

I haven’t been officially diagnosed with autism, but I strongly suspect I’m on the spectrum. I get completely absorbed in video games – it’s a real obsession, and I can’t imagine losing that level of interest, even if I tried.

I hadn’t encountered The Sexy Brutale before reading a review on Push Square by their regular writer, Simon Fitzgerald.

Created by Cavalier Game Studios and the now-closed Tequila Works, this game is a puzzle experience inspired by Groundhog Day. You’ll relive a series of tragic events at a masquerade ball, learning what happens so you can ultimately prevent the deaths of those involved.

It’s a bit creepy and unsettling, but the way it looks is actually quite stylish. I’d describe it as having a ‘Tim Burton’s dollhouse’ vibe – dark, but playful and funny. The jazzy music really adds to that feeling, too.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t recall a huge amount about the game, only that I really loved it.

Each time you explore the casino mansion, you uncover more of its secrets, slowly learning who frequents it, their routines, and their motivations. As someone who loves puzzles, I found this game incredibly engaging.

I do remember that getting the platinum Trophy isn’t simple. While a lot of it involves saving all the characters and discovering key parts of the story, you also have to collect all 52 playing cards hidden throughout the mansion.

Finding those items seemed like a lot of work at first, but it really just meant I was paying close attention while searching the house. Since this is a puzzle game, being observant is essential anyway, so it didn’t feel like a burden.

I was so happy to learn about this game through Simon’s excellent review! I probably would have overlooked it otherwise, and that would have been a shame, because it’s a really well-made and captivating puzzle game.

Cheers, The Sexy Brutale.
