Donut County is a game I reviewed here on Push Square, and I was happy to do it.
This game is exactly my kind of thing – a small, independent title with an original idea and a fun, lighthearted approach. I’d much rather play something unique and quirky than the usual big-budget blockbusters or yearly releases of similar shooting games.
It’s hard not to be captivated by a game where a greedy raccoon destroys his whole town—and everyone in it—simply to steal a drone!
It definitely has a strong internet meme style, which won’t appeal to all audiences, but I personally found it to be a fun and silly way to pass the time.
The basic concept of Donut County – controlling a hole that grows as objects fall in – is reminiscent of Katamari Damacy. While it’s not as expansive as that game, Donut County captures a similar, and often missing, sense of playful absurdity.
Though brief, this game offers charming puzzles, humorous writing, and a surprisingly engaging core concept. The idea of dropping items into a cartoon hole seems silly, but it’s strangely addictive.
Getting the platinum trophy in this game was pretty straightforward. You can earn almost all of the trophies simply by completing the story.
I don’t think I even considered getting the platinum trophy until after I finished and reviewed the game. I went back just to quickly complete the last few achievements, since I was already there.
Donut County is a really enjoyable and simple game, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. It’s an easy game to get 100% completion in, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting something relaxing and straightforward. Think of it like a quick, easy meal – a frozen pizza hits the spot sometimes!
I almost left out the part about the pizza, but it seemed fitting. ‘Going Platinum‘ isn’t high-quality, to be honest. If its standard features were a meal, they’d be like a frozen pizza – basic and unremarkable.
