Feature: Let’s Predict Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025

Among Geoff Keighley’s trio of yearly gaming spectacles, it’s often observed that the Gamescom Opening Night Live event doesn’t quite measure up as strongly as the others. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that this event has had its share of remarkable announcements and trailers throughout the years.

Filled with a spark of optimism and numerous title possibilities on the horizon, we found it exciting to share some of our forecasts before the grand event unfolds.

But before we get into all that, let’s go over what we know will be there.

Games Confirmed for Gamescom ONL So Far

The following titles have already been confirmed as part of the showcase:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
  • Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion
  • Little Nightmares 3
  • Lords of the Fallen 2
  • Ninja Gaiden 4
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin
  • Silent Hill F

We’ll add more as and when they are announced prior to the show.

In simpler terms, what does this imply? Our interpretation is that there are numerous options available. For example, there are several games scheduled for 2025 that haven’t been given a release date yet. Gamescom ONL could also be an excellent platform to unveil new trailers for games that were announced earlier in the year.

On top of the games set to release shortly following Gamescom, the event promises to be quite busy. So, let’s take a closer look.

Character Reveals Are In

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for titles that offer a diverse cast of characters to play as. Fortunately, there seems to be quite an array coming up in the near future, though some are closer to release than others.

In other scenarios, you might envision short video previews focusing on the characters of games like Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, or possibly Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. These trailers would introduce us to the unique personalities within these game worlds.

As a diehard fan, I can tell you that the next two highly-anticipated games, namely Tokon and Cosmic Invasion, don’t have a release date just yet. However, considering the excitement building around them, it seems like the perfect moment to start hearing some news about when we can expect Tokon to launch, and more importantly, when Cosmic Invasion is going to drop!

September and October Reminders

Over the next few months, our calendar is packed with exciting new video game launches. It’s quite likely that some prominent gaming companies will attend the online edition of Gamescom to give a heads-up about their upcoming releases.

A fresh gameplay trailer unveiling exciting new features, pre-ordering information, and the announcement of a brand-new gaming mode – all designed to create excitement about upcoming games.

Titles in this category include:

  • Hell Is Us
  • Dying Light: The Beast
  • Borderlands 4
  • Jurassic World Evolution 3
  • Arc Raiders
  • Battlefield 6

Apart from numerous other possible contenders, there’s a significant one we failed to mention – the Ghost of Yotei. If Sony organizes another State of Play event in September, as it usually does, we believe it may unveil itself there, should it appear anywhere at all.

It’s a Date

Many game developers and publishers haven’t announced specific launch dates yet, but a significant number of these games are still planned for release in 2025. With just about a third of the year remaining, now is the perfect moment for everyone involved to clarify their plans and make some firm decisions.

In addition to Marvel Cosmic Invasion, we’re eagerly anticipating release dates for a few other games, including Lumines Arise, an early access version of Skate, 2XKO, Mixtape, and the sequel to Hades.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the chance to dive back into the mesmerizing world of Lumines. And guess what? The creators, Enhance, have hinted at a playable demo being released this summer! With summer winding down, it seems like we might just be experiencing an early “demo drop” situation. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!

It’s an Update

At various times, other games have been unveiled or showcased before, but it might have been some time since then. The Gamescom ONL platform offers an excellent opportunity to disclose a bit more information about certain forthcoming games that we’re aware are being developed. In other words, it serves as a convenient venue for providing updates on these upcoming titles. For example:

– Several games have been previously unveiled or demonstrated, but there may have been a gap since then.
– Gamescom ONL offers a perfect platform to share some fresh details about upcoming games that we know are in development.
– Previously, numerous games were revealed or displayed, and there might have been a lapse of time. The Gamescom ONL event provides an ideal setting for releasing updates on games currently being developed.
– Prior to now, other games have been made public or showcased, but it’s possible that some time has passed since then. Gamescom ONL is an excellent platform to share new insights into the development of upcoming titles.

  • 007 First Light — Officially unveiled during Sony’s June State of Play, now might be a good time to show some moment-to-moment gameplay.
  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Pragmata — Both also seen in June showcases. With Capcom already showing Resident Evil Requiem, it’s possible these two other 2026 games will get some air time too.
  • Silent Hill: Townfall — Not seen since its announcement in 2022. Silent Hill F is confirmed for ONL, so perhaps it could segue into a new trailer for Townfall?
  • John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando — Announced in 2023, this has more or less been totally absent ever since. Is now the time to see it return?
  • Crazy Taxi — SEGA’s first retro revival project, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, is on the verge of release. It would make sense to us if the publisher starts promoting the next, and the one we’re most curious to see is the brand new Crazy Taxi. We’ll take Jet Set Radio too, though.

Just for Fun

So far, our assumptions and guesses have primarily centered around conventional games – but isn’t it more intriguing to speculate on something unique like Gamescom ONL itself? After all, why limit ourselves? Let’s go ahead and make some whimsical predictions about Gamescom ONL!

Geoff’s Shoes Will Be Predominantly Black

Geoff Keighley often strides onto the stage wearing a carefully selected t-shirt, jacket, and likely high-priced sneakers. We enjoy trying to predict the color of his attire before he appears, and this time we suspect he might opt for a more conventional look with predominantly black shoes.

Someone in the Audience Will React Too Strongly to Something

During the E3 events of the past, there were occasional spectators (probably sponsored by publishers) who would react dramatically, cheering exuberantly as if they had witnessed a remarkable event. We anticipate that such a reaction might occur again; perhaps some mock excitement for an uninspiring sci-fi shooter or similar scenario.

Geoff Will Brag About Visiting Studios and Playing Games Early

He loves doing this. He’s got his grubby fingers in so many pies, it’s disgusting.

There’ll Probably Be a TV Adaptation or Whatever

As a gaming enthusiast, I always get excited when big names from the entertainment world hop into our gaming sphere. Last year, Tim Miller, a well-known figure from film and TV, hyped up Amazon’s show Secret Level, leaving me with a “been there, done that” feeling. This year, I’m hoping for something fresh and engaging that truly captivates my interest!

An Announcement That Puts Geoff on the Verge of Tears But Is Actually Not That Surprising or Impactful

In simpler terms, during one of his shows, Geoff might save the grandest announcement for last, and prior to the unveiling, he becomes incredibly animated. He gets emotional, even teary-eyed. This is a significant moment, this is something big. Just look at him, he seems ecstatic, almost weightless with excitement. And guess what? It’s about the third Star Wars Jedi game! Wow, that’s cool! Alright, let’s get excited about it. Cool.

Alright, that wraps up our predictions for the Gamescom Opening Night Live event. We’re curious to hear your thoughts! Let’s chat about it in the comments below. What are you excited to see during the showcase?
