After ten years of development on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, the release of the third game will be a significant milestone for the team, effectively concluding their work on this iconic RPG. In a recent GameSpot interview, director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed finishing the trilogy and what it means for the team’s future projects.
When asked if he and the team were reflecting on finishing the trilogy, Hamaguchi admitted it was a tough question. He explained they’re determined to finish strong and deliver a final game that lives up to fans’ hopes. While transitioning between the first and second games felt overwhelming, he feels confident now that they’re nearing the end. He affirmed that the team is fully focused on completing the trilogy successfully.
It’s natural to feel emotional about finishing a project you’ve dedicated over ten years to, especially one as beloved as Final Fantasy 7. Fortunately, Hamaguchi has expressed a desire to collaborate with the same team on future endeavors. He previously shared that the team developed a strong bond while working on the game, which significantly contributed to its improvement.
Once the third game in the series is released – and hopefully does well – we’ll start working on a new project. It would be fantastic to see what the team we’ve developed can create. The team’s relationships have really grown and become stronger, which has made us a more cohesive unit.
It’s currently unclear if the team’s next project will be another Final Fantasy game or something completely different. However, Hamaguchi assured fans of the Remake trilogy that they have something to look forward to.
We don’t know yet if our next project will be a brand new game and story, or something within the Final Fantasy universe. But I’m excited about it! Players who enjoyed the three Final Fantasy Remake games should be really enthusiastic, and I personally can’t wait to start working on it when the time comes.
The second game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, came out in 2024, and developers are making good progress on the third installment. In a recent interview, producer Yoshinori Hamaguchi also revealed that the third game will include an enhanced version of the popular mini-game, Queen’s Blood.
