Okay, so Rebirth… it’s amazing, but wow, there’s *so* much to do! I mean, I love getting lost in the world, but there are tons of side quests and minigames. It’s not a bad thing, exactly – it gives you a lot to explore between the big story moments – but it definitely keeps you busy! Some people might find it overwhelming, but as a fan, I’m happy to dive in and do it all.
It appears the third installment in Square Enix’s Remake series will be a more streamlined experience. Director Naoki Hamaguchi hinted in a Screen Rant interview that the final game will have a tighter focus.
We’re aiming for a tighter, more focused story in this final game of the trilogy, carefully managing how plot points unfold compared to the previous one, Rebirth.
This third game has a complex story to unpack. The remake of Final Fantasy 7 was able to freely adapt the plot because the original game’s mid-section focuses heavily on exploring the world beyond Midgar with Cloud and his team.
However, not everyone liked this design choice. Many players felt that Rebirth dragged on too long with unnecessary content, and they’re hoping the next game will have a better flow and be more concise.
Hamaguchi actually disagrees with that idea. He feels the length of certain sections, particularly in Rebirth, was appropriate and not unnecessarily long.
He explained that players today have so many things to do and play that they often feel rushed to finish things quickly.
It seems the team working on the next installment – currently known as Part 3 – has listened to feedback and used it to improve the game.
