The final installment of Square Enix’s extended Final Fantasy 7 Remake series won’t be confined exclusively to the PlayStation 5.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the news – and it’s finally here! The Japanese publisher has officially confirmed via social media that the highly-anticipated third installment of our favorite game series is set to drop simultaneously on PS5, the next-gen Switch (codename: Switch 2), Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Let’s get ready to game!
Initially, the first installment of this series was exclusively launched for PlayStation 4 consoles back in 2020. However, it was adapted later to run on both PS5 and PC systems in 2021. The game will eventually become available on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 starting from January 22nd, 2026.
In 2024, the follow-up titled “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” made its debut exclusively on PlayStation 5 consoles. More recently, it became available for personal computers as well.
On numerous occasions, Square Enix has made it clear they weren’t pleased with the sales of the sequel, leading to their strategy of releasing games on multiple platforms.
It appears that the new offerings aren’t limited to a single game; rather, it seems that the entire collection, including titles such as the recently announced Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, is being made available across all platforms.
It’s intriguing to explore how expanding to multiple platforms might impact the success of the series. Undeniably, it will have a broader reach than if it were only available on PlayStation, but it remains to be seen if consumers will be keen to support the third installment in this remake series.
It seems there’s no news yet about the release date for the final installment, nor any new images or previews. However, during a recent live broadcast, Square Enix mentioned that the project is advancing smoothly.
