As a die-hard fan, I’ve been on tenterhooks about the possibility of a Final Fantasy 9 Remake. To my utter delight, Square Enix dropped a “Special Movie” trailer to celebrate the original game’s 25th anniversary. The trailer brings back the main cast and recreates some of the most iconic scenes from this RPG masterpiece.
Introduced in 2000, Final Fantasy 9 marks the final installment of the series for the PlayStation One. The narrative revolves around Zidane, a member of the bandit group Tantalus, who abducts Princess Garnet during a play at Alexandria’s theater. However, the plot thickens as they become entangled in Alexandria’s aggressive ambitions and its repercussions on the world at large.
Since its debut, Final Fantasy 9 has garnered widespread praise and sold over 8.9 million copies up until March 2025. There have been whispers of a remake circulating since last year, though Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the matter, even with the excitement building around their 25th anniversary. Keep an eye out for any upcoming news in the near future.
