The Power Rangers are making a comeback! Playmates Toys has launched a new line of toys, and there’s been talk of new TV shows and movies in the works. Recently, reports indicated a new series was planned for Disney+ with some well-known people involved. Now, it’s official: a new live-action Power Rangers show is happening – and fans are thrilled, as it’s the first since the Super Sentai series ended.
Okay, so all those rumors going around? They’re true! I was hearing that the team behind the Percy Jackson show – Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz – were going to be writing and running the new Power Rangers TV series, and I just saw they confirmed it themselves in an interview with MovieWeb. They’re really excited about it, which is awesome to hear, and honestly, after Percy Jackson, I’m pretty hyped to see what they do with the Rangers!
When questioned about the circulating rumor, Steinberg confirmed it was true, expressing his enthusiastic anticipation for the story without revealing details. Shotz offered a similarly indirect response, playfully acknowledging the unanswerable question. He hinted that they are actively working to develop the story, but couldn’t share any further information at this time.
As a big fan, it’s really good to see a solid creative team now working on the series. Things have been a little shaky for a while, honestly. There was a plan for a whole interconnected universe being built by the creator of I Am Not Okay With This, Jonathan Entwistle, working with Hasbro and Netflix, but that didn’t quite pan out.
There were ambitious plans to connect the Power Rangers TV series and movies, and fans were excited to see how it would all come together. Although Netflix ended up releasing Power Rangers Dino Fury, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, and the 30th Anniversary Special Once & Always, those broader plans were unfortunately cancelled in 2024.
Considering how well the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is being received, and the fact that the show has talented leaders who are good at adapting stories and developing interesting characters, there’s a good chance this project will succeed and make it to television.
