In February 2026, Xbox Game Pass will add a new sci-fi RPG on its first day of release. This game is currently in early access, meaning it’s still being developed. Microsoft didn’t announce this addition beforehand, making it a pleasant surprise for subscribers. However, it’s important to note that this game is only available on PC, so it will only be added to the PC version of Game Pass.
The latest game coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one is Menace, a new sci-fi RPG developed by Overhype Studios and published by Hooded Horse. This is Overhype Studios’ second game and their first release since 2017’s Battle Brothers, a highly-rated tactical RPG. While Battle Brothers was set in a fantasy world, Menace takes place in a sci-fi setting, but it still shares the same turn-based tactical gameplay. Early signs suggest Overhype Studios has delivered another quality game.
XCOM 2-Inspired
If you’re familiar with Battle Brothers, you’ll quickly recognize its influence on this game. If not, you might see similarities to XCOM and XCOM 2. While those games were definitely an inspiration, Menace doesn’t quite reach their level of polish.
The game has already received 2,217 user reviews in just four days, which is impressive for a game still in early access, especially given its $40 price tag – a relatively high price for this stage of development. An outstanding 87% of those reviews are positive, earning the game a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, which is the second-highest rating possible.
You lead a diverse team of marines, mercenaries, and criminals in this game. They must work together under your command to defend a faraway star system from a mysterious enemy.
We don’t know how long the PC version of Xbox Game Pass will offer the game. This information hasn’t been made public, and it’s possible the game will leave the service before it’s even fully launched. However, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can currently buy the game at a 20% discount, which is an exclusive offer.
Recently, some Xbox Game Pass subscribers haven’t been happy with the games offered, and with talk of a price hike, this new game likely won’t solve those concerns. That said, it’s excellent news for players who enjoy tactical role-playing games.
