FNAF 2 Director Emma Tammi Reveals How the Movie Is “All the Things You Hope It Would Be”

The upcoming movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, is breaking new ground for the series by bringing the terrifying animatronics out into public spaces, rather than keeping them hidden in the usual haunted locations. This fresh approach is sure to excite fans when the film is released on December 5, 2025.

The new film reunites the original cast, including Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, Piper Rubio as Abby, and Matthew Lillard as William Afton. Joining them are new actors like Skeet Ulrich, McKenna Grace, Megan Fox, Kellen Goff, and even YouTuber MatPat, among others.

At New York Comic Con, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 director Emma Tammi shared some exciting details with TopMob. She hinted that seeing the characters in a new setting creates fun and frightening interactions, saying it’s exactly what fans would expect.

The full interview from TopMob’s Russ Milheim can be read and watched below.

Taking the Animatronics Out Into the Real World

“It’s Pretty Hilarious and Scary…”

  • TopMob: “The movie transcends the game franchise by taking the animatronics out into the real world in a significant way, kind of for the first time. Can you just talk about how that really does give this film a unique place in the franchise?”

Emma Tammi believes audiences will be thrilled by the number of animatronics in the new movie, especially because they’re based on designs from the second game. She also says seeing these characters in a new setting makes the film funny, frightening, and everything fans would want it to be.

Bringing Mangle to Life in FNAF 2

“Mangle Looked So Dang Cool.”

  • TopMob: “One of the main animatronics in this new one is Mangle, who seems like a very difficult animatronic to bring to life, especially with how the first one is very much like they’re real, in-person animatronics, they’re physical. So what was that process like of creating Mangle and making sure it lived up to what you guys have already done with these other animatronics?”

Emma Tammi described the experience as thrilling but incredibly demanding. The animatronic for Mangle was the most complex element on set, often requiring around 13 people to operate during full-body shots. It was a massive undertaking, but the result – Mangle looked fantastic! – was worth the technical challenges and slow, meticulous process. Coordinating the stunt performers, riggers, and puppeteers required a huge team effort, but ultimately it was very rewarding.

FNAF 2 Will Have More YouTube Stars to Look Forward Too

“You Might Be Able to See a Recognizable Face or Two

  • TopMob: “The first movie featured some of the biggest Five Nights at Freddy’s YouTube, will the second maybe, will some more faces pop up in that regard? Can we at least, I know you can’t say who it is, but can we hope to maybe see some more things like that?”

Emma Tammi: Yes, I do think you might be able to see a recognizable face or two.

  • TopMob: “Hypothetically, let’s just pretend that you will go back for another adventure in this world. Knowing the lore of the game, is there an animatronic that you would just you’re just dying to see realized in a film that we just haven’t been able to touch yet?”

I’m constantly discovering new FNAF animatronics – it feels like every week brings another one! I think I’ve learned them all, but then a new character appears, and I realize there’s still more to find. There’s a huge number of characters we could potentially use.
