Dynamite Entertainment is releasing a fresh take on a beloved story that fans will be excited about.

I’m so excited! Dynamite Entertainment is partnering with Warner Bros. to create a graphic novel version of The Wizard of Oz based on the original movie! It’s being written and illustrated by Soo Lee, who I already love from her work on Disney Villains: Maleficent and Thundercats: Cheetara. They’re launching it on Kickstarter right now, and there are a bunch of cool extras available for early backers – you should definitely check it out if you’re a fan like me!

Backers of The Wizard of Oz: The Official Film Adaptation Graphic Novel can choose from several special editions, including unique cover art by artists like Jae Lee, Eric Shanower, and the renowned Alex Ross. Prints of each cover are available, and some can even be signed. As a special bonus, one backer will win the original Jae Lee cover art along with the hardcover graphic novel it matches.

As a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz, I was so excited to see Soo Lee get a chance to really expand on the story in the graphic novel! She told me she wasn’t trying to change anything major, but wanted to add her own take to this classic. What’s really cool is she had more space than the movie allowed, so she could spend more time on scenes we all love, and even include bits that were cut from the original film! Apparently, there are things even long-time fans might not know! She especially wanted to dig deeper into the feelings and connections between Dorothy and her friends, and I think that’s going to be amazing.

The Kickstarter campaign for The Wizard of Oz: The Official Film Adaptation Graphic Novel launched shortly after the release of the Wicked movie, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Wicked: For Good premiered on November 22nd and quickly earned over $750 million, despite costing $150 million to make. While the film has been a huge commercial success, critics haven’t been as enthusiastic as they were about the first Wicked movie, giving it a ‘Fresh’ rating of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I’m so excited! They’re doing a graphic novel adaptation of The Wizard of Oz based on the classic movie, and it’s available now on Kickstarter! They’re planning hardcover, paperback, and digital versions, and everything is expected to ship around June 2026. I can’t wait to get my copy!
