Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord episodes 1-2
Darth Vader’s intense hallway fight in Star Wars: Rogue One is one of the most memorable scenes in the franchise. Even though it came out a decade ago, it’s still considered a highlight of his on-screen appearances. Now, Star Wars seems determined to create even more spectacular hallway action in future installments.
Ten years after the original Star Wars, many fans now consider Darth Maul’s entrance scene to be even more iconic than Darth Vader’s famous hallway moment. The new comic series, Maul: Shadow Lord, takes place a year after the rise of the Empire and shows Maul attempting to regain his strength in the galaxy’s criminal world. He’s driven by a desire for revenge against those who wronged him, including his former Sith master, Darth Sidious.
The first two episodes of Maul – Shadow Lord are now available, and they feature two remarkably intense and visually striking hallway sequences starring the former Sith apprentice.
10 Years Ago, Star Wars Gave Us Darth Vader’s Iconic Rogue One Hallway Scene
The Battle of Scarif, as depicted in the film Rogue One, features a particularly striking scene with Darth Vader. Once the Death Star plans were successfully sent from Scarif to the Rebel ship The Profundity, Vader personally boarded the crippled vessel.
Vader activated his lightsaber in the dim hallway and quickly defeated the Rebel soldiers with frightening efficiency. He demonstrated a level of power and skill with the Force and his lightsaber that hadn’t been fully showcased in live-action films before.
Even though the plans are delivered to Princess Leia’s ship at the beginning of A New Hope, Darth Vader’s hallway scene in Rogue One remains incredibly powerful and showcases his strength. Now, Star Wars is giving Darth Maul a similar, and potentially even more impressive, treatment in the Shadow Lord series.
Now, Star Wars Is Going Bigger With Darth Maul’s New Series (He’s Already Got Two Hallway Scenes)
Just like before, Maul: Shadow Lord quickly demonstrates how deadly Maul is in hand-to-hand combat. Within the first two episodes, he appears in two significant hallway fight scenes that are even more intense than his original scene from the final episodes of The Clone Wars, which took place when he didn’t have his lightsaber – and that scene was already remarkable.
The first episode of Shadow Lord opens with Maul attacking a police station on the planet Janix. He fights his way through officers and droids to free the crime boss Vario and a Jedi named Devon Izara, whom he intends to train as his new apprentice. Using his acrobatic skills and double-bladed lightsaber, Maul quickly defeats everyone in his path – except for one person, Lawson, who he strangely lets live.
Similarly, the fight in the second episode of Shadow Lord, where Maul battles a large group of Pyke Syndicate agents, results in numerous casualties on the Pykes’ ship.
The hallway fight in this episode was even more intense than the first, so we might see similar scenes with Darth Maul in future episodes of Shadow Lord, each one pushing the action even further. Considering how popular the new Star Wars show is already, most fans would likely enjoy that.
New episodes of Star Wars: Maul- Shadow Lord release Mondays on Disney+ from Lucasfilm Animation.
