Forza Horizon 5 Has Reportedly Sold Over 5 Million Units on PS5

Last year, several games that were once exclusive to Xbox became available on PlayStation 5, including Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Gears of War: Reloaded. But the biggest hit by far was Forza Horizon 5. Released in 2021, the popular open-world racing game recently surpassed five million sales on PS5, according to data from Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott.

He noted the game has generated over $300 million in revenue despite being released four years ago. This success explains why Xbox is increasingly releasing games on platforms other than their own, as Microsoft is focused on maximizing profits.

Forza Horizon 6 marks a first for the series by being released on a PlayStation console. Considering Forza Horizon 5’s continued popularity – it had over ten million players within its first week – and Playground Games’ ongoing support with new content, it’s not surprising the PS5 version is doing well.

It’s surprising that Microsoft isn’t releasing Forza Horizon 6 on PlayStation 5 at the same time as other platforms. It will launch after the Xbox Series X/S and PC versions, which are expected in the first half of the year. While some might think this is to encourage people to buy an Xbox or subscribe to Game Pass, Microsoft claims the delay is simply because the PS5 version isn’t finished yet.

According to a source who spoke with VGC’s Andy Robinson, the next Forza Horizon game—Forza Horizon 6—is expected to be even more popular than the last one. This is particularly likely now that the series is heading to Japan. We’ll get more details on January 22nd during the Xbox Developer_Direct ’26, which will also showcase Fable, Beast of Reincarnation, and a currently unannounced fourth game.
