Following the New Game+ Showcase, the Xbox Developer_Direct appears to be the first big presentation of its kind this year, continuing a yearly tradition. Microsoft has confirmed we’ll see updates on Fable, Forza Horizon 6, and Beast of Reincarnation, and there’s even talk of a fourth, unannounced game. This isn’t surprising, though – remember the unexpected launch of Hi-Fi Rush?
The initial report from insider Shinobi602 wasn’t enthusiastic, but lacked specifics. VGC’s Andy Robinson then suggested it would be a game made by a third-party developer. However, VGC has since clarified that the game is actually a smaller, original title developed by one of Nintendo’s own internal studios, not a third party.
With rumors swirling that Obsidian Entertainment is developing four new games, it’s easy to get excited about what’s next. Could we see a sequel to their critically acclaimed title, Pentiment? And don’t forget Double Fine Productions, who recently released Keeper and may have another project in the works, potentially led by Tim Schafer.
We’re hoping to hear something new from Ninja Theory. While a third Hellblade game seems unlikely given how long it’s been since they started planning their next project, they’ve been quietly developing Project: Mara since 2020, so that’s a possibility.
The Developer_Direct is happening on January 22nd, and fans are eagerly awaiting the news. There’s also a rumor that Fable might be released on the same day for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
We’ve updated our previous report: this game is a smaller, original title developed by a first-party studio, not a third-party developer, as we initially stated. We apologize for the error.
