Playground Games and Microsoft have announced the next installment in the *Forza Horizon* series, *Forza Horizon 6*, which is scheduled to release in 2026. In an interview with Xbox Wire, art director Don Arceta confirmed that the game will feature Mt. Fuji and surrounding areas, and shared details about a few other locations players can expect to explore.
We’re keeping specific details under wraps for now, but we can’t wait to reveal the stunning variety of Japanese landscapes we’ve created for fans. From the vibrant, detailed city of Tokyo – our most ambitious environment yet – to the peaceful beauty of the countryside and mountains, we believe players will be amazed by the open world we’ve built in Japan, according to Arceta.
The development team isn’t trying to perfectly replicate Japan, but rather to capture the feeling and culture of the country and integrate it into the Horizon style. To do this, they traveled to Japan with cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita.
Being there with the dev team in Japan was amazing. Most of us had never been before, and it was clear they were really trying to *understand* the culture, not just see it. A few days in, someone perfectly captured it – they said Tokyo was full of energy, but somehow… quiet. That really struck me. It wasn’t just about what they were *seeing*; they were actually *feeling* the atmosphere, that organized chaos with a surprising sense of calm. Yamashita pointed out this kind of genuine insight can’t be forced, and it really influenced how we thought about things like how people moved, proper etiquette, and even how sound worked in the city.
The next installment in the Forza Horizon series, *Forza Horizon 6*, is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC next year. A PlayStation 5 version will follow, though the release date hasn’t been announced yet. We’ll learn more details in early 2026. The game is being developed by Turn 10 Studios, in collaboration with Playground Games, despite recent layoffs at Turn 10. Keep an eye out for more news in the months ahead.
