What is The Golden Land Arc?
As a longtime follower of the series, I remember the Golden Land Arc being considered a high point – one of the strongest storylines before the manga took a break. The villain from that arc, “Macht of The Golden Land,” has always been seen as incredibly powerful and frightening, and it looks like he’ll be a major focus in the upcoming season. Interestingly, he was introduced as one of the most powerful of the “Seven Sages of Destruction,” and his backstory actually had some similarities to Frieren’s – he was also curious about understanding humanity.
Unlike Frieren, Macht’s life took a darker turn. He initially pledged his service to Gluck, a human lord, and Gluck exploited Macht’s knowledge of humanity to further his own ambitions. Macht, surprisingly, then sought to understand guilt, which led him to transform the city of Weise into gold. Given his shared history with Frieren, Macht is expected to be a central figure in the upcoming third season, as Frieren and her friends face their greatest challenge yet in late 2027. Even though the manga is currently paused, anime fans still have exciting events to anticipate.
