Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Shares Promising Update After Indefinite Hiatus

I’m so excited for Season 2 of *Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End*! It’s coming in 2026, and it’s going to follow Frieren and her party as they finally head towards Aureole. Now that Fern’s officially a First Class Mage, they have the clearance to travel all the way to the north. It’s really cool because Aureole is where the Demon King’s Castle used to be, so Frieren’s revisiting places she explored with Himmel and the others long ago. All these memories are flooding back for her – it’s a bit bittersweet, honestly, with a lovely sense of nostalgia. The season will kick off with the Continued Northern Travels Arc, which is the fifth arc in the manga, though the story is currently on the tenth arc, the Foundation Festival Arc, so there’s plenty more to come!

The manga *Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End*, created by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, quickly gained a dedicated fanbase after its release in 2020. Unfortunately, the series has faced several unexpected breaks due to health concerns of the creators. Most recently, it went on hiatus in January and returned in July, but after only three months, another indefinite hiatus was announced for the same reason. Fans are eagerly awaiting the series’ comeback when the creators are feeling better. The break begins after the release of chapter 147, and an update about the situation was shared on the series’ official X account.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Creators Are Working on the Manga Despite the Hiatus

The series *Sousou no Frieren* will be temporarily paused to maintain its quality and give the creators, Yamada-sensei and Abe-sensei, time to rest. They will both return to work on the series after the break, with continued support from the editorial team.

The manga is currently on break to give the creators time to adjust their work schedule and prioritize their health. While there’s no set date for its return, the story is at a key moment: Frieren and her companions are rushing to help Serie during the capital’s Foundation Festival. Fans will have to wait a few months for new chapters, but there’s good news! A beautiful art book is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2025. The second season of the anime will stream on Crunchyroll, which also has the first season available. You can read all the manga chapters for free on Viz Media’s *Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End* website, and you can also purchase digital or physical copies of the volumes there.
