From’s Man in Yellow Twist Changes Everything I Thought About Season 4

Season 4 of From is proving to be a breakout hit. The MGM+ mystery-horror series is not only receiving critical praise, but is also quickly becoming one of the most-watched shows on streaming platforms. The show is attracting both new viewers and its dedicated existing fanbase, fueled by surprising developments already unveiled in the season premiere.

The biggest mystery from Season 3’s shocking finale – the identity of the “Man in Yellow” – has finally been solved. This reveal disproves many fan theories and opens up exciting new possibilities. We’ll explain everything below, but be warned: major spoilers ahead!

From‘s “Man In the Yellow” Explained

The fourth season begins with the episode “The Arrival,” immediately following the death of Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) at the hands of the mysterious Man in Yellow, witnessed by his daughter, Julie (Hannah Cheramy), who is from the future. We learn the Man in Yellow was the voice who warned Jim in Season 1 about his wife Tabitha’s digging, and that he’s aware of Julie’s unique ability to travel back to past events within their reality, known as “story walking.” Before disappearing, Future Julie is cruelly reminded by the entity that she can’t prevent her father’s death.

The Man in Yellow discovers a suitcase holding a new disguise – the physical form of a teenage girl named Sophia (Julia Doyle). This entity is incredibly malicious, and uses a pastor to infiltrate The Township, causing him to crash his car into the Sheriff’s Station. The plan works; Sophia and the man posing as her father are taken in by Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) and Kenny (Ricky He), and Sophia quickly forms a connection with them while the pastor remains unconscious. In a shocking twist at the end of the episode, Sophia awakens the pastor only to kill him by suffocating him with a pillow.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that the Man in Yellow is the main villain of From, and likely the root cause of the terrifying events unfolding in the story. Starting Season 4 by focusing on the villain—essentially introducing him as a key character—was a surprising and unexpected move. It’s similar to the beginning of Stranger Things, which initially presented a mysterious force (The Mind Flayer) as the main threat, before later revealing a more concrete villain, Henry Creel/Vecna. From has now shifted its focus from a mysterious creature to a fully developed character that the show is clearly investing in.

From Just Killed A Lot of Fan Theories About the Man In Yellow

As a huge fan, I remember being totally obsessed after Season 3 wrapped up around Thanksgiving 2024. Then we had to wait over a year for Season 4 to finally drop on April 19, 2026! That whole time, everyone was buzzing with theories about who the Man In Yellow really was. A lot of us thought someone from The Township was hiding behind that mask – either through a disguise like we eventually saw, or that it would turn out to be a future version of one of the townspeople. Randall was a really popular guess, and honestly, I kind of hoped it was him!

Many of the ideas explored in From have roots in the show’s established mythology. The series has already introduced concepts like immortality (through the Music Box Monster’s curse) and time travel (through the story walking ability and visions of the past). However, the real excitement of a mystery show comes from whether the creators can still deliver unexpected twists, even when fans are actively trying to predict the plot. And based on the current reaction, the Season 4 premiere of From definitely surprised a lot of people. We’re all looking forward to seeing how the villain’s story unfolds.

You can now watch Season 4 of the show on MGM+. Season 5 will be the last season. Join the discussion with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
