Hiromu Arakawa, the artist behind the popular manga Fullmetal Alchemist, didn’t intend to continue the story of the Elric brothers with any sequels or spin-offs. Instead, in 2021, she began Daemons of the Shadow Realm, a completely new story unlike the alchemic world of Edward and Alphonse. An anime adaptation of the series is coming next year, and a new trailer offers a sneak peek at Yuru’s world. Though not connected to Fullmetal Alchemist, fans of alchemy should definitely check out this new anime when it premieres in 2026.
The anime adaptation of Daemons of the Shadow Realm is scheduled to premiere next April. Studio BONES, known for its work on My Hero Academia, will be handling the animation. Having previously animated both Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, both created by Hiromu Arakawa, Studio BONES is a fitting choice for this new project by the same creator. Though many details about Yomi no Tsuga remain unknown, a recently released trailer offers a better look at the characters and story. You can watch the trailer above.
The Daemons Are Coming
If you’re looking for a new manga series, check out Shadows of the Daemon Realm. Square Enix describes it as a story set in a world where humans can control powerful supernatural beings called Daemons. Twins Yuru and Asa are destined to rule over these Daemons, but they were separated as children and don’t know their true origins. The story follows their journey to reunite, claim their destiny, and save the world. With popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia recently finishing, Shadows is well-positioned to become the next big hit in the anime and manga world.
The manga Shadows of the Daemon Realm recently reached a significant milestone, surpassing 4.5 million copies in circulation – an impressive number before its anime adaptation even premieres. The anime’s first season is scheduled for next spring, and given the amount of story available in the manga (which began in 2021), future seasons are likely. With Studio BONES finishing up their work on My Hero Academia, they are now well-positioned to begin animating Yuru’s story and create a brand new anime world.
