Sony is scrapping the PSN brand and it doesn’t look like it’ll be getting a new name.
We recently noted that the PlayStation Network status page on PlayStation.com was updated last year to no longer include any reference to the PlayStation Network itself.
And now we’ve noticed a similar thing in the PS5 settings.
You can find information about your connection by going to Settings then Network. Previously, this section would say ‘PlayStation Network: Signed In’, but now it simply says ‘PlayStation: Signed In’.
The image no longer includes the PSN logo, and the button now says ‘View Service Status’ instead of the previous ‘View PlayStation Network Status’.
Okay, so it looks like we don’t need to worry about a big name change! It seems like PlayStation is just getting rid of the PSN name altogether. From now on, it’s just going to be a single PlayStation account for everything, which is pretty simple, really.
As we recently discussed, the PlayStation Network (PSN) name isn’t really used much anymore. It mostly comes up when there are issues with Sony’s online services.
It’s funny to think about how long people will keep using that phrase when things go wrong. Like I noticed last week when the PlayStation Network had that little hiccup – searches for ‘PSN Down’ just exploded! It really showed how ingrained that term is with players when the servers go offline.
In the future, people might just search online for ‘PS5 Down’ when they experience issues. Naturally, Sony wants to minimize any interruptions to their service.
