If you’re patiently waiting for Snake Eyes to reappear, it might be wiser not to anticipate too much. During our chat with the cast of The Old Guard 2, we inquired about the fate of one of the stars, Henry Golding, and his famous character: Snake Eyes. In the 2021 film Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, Golding portrayed the popular G.I. Joe team member from the series. However, Golding stated that no one has reached out to him regarding a sequel and his potential return as Snake Eyes on the big screen.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice all the buzz surrounding Transformers and Snake Eyes. It’s unclear if they’ll bypass our beloved G.I. Joe characters altogether and revisit the original G.I. Joe series. The future is uncertain, but I can’t deny that we’ve had a tumultuous journey with that franchise in the past.
Golding’s portrayal of the commando resonated with viewers, garnering a respectable 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ audience rating, the Popcornmeter. Conversely, the movie Snake Eyes faced criticism from critics, receiving only a 35% score on their Tomatometer. Unfortunately, the poor box office performance of Snake Eyes four years ago, coupled with an entertainment industry still grappling with the aftermath of COVID-19, may have hindered the character’s return. However, Golding delivered a compelling and nuanced portrayal in the role, breathing life into a traditionally enigmatic character, and solidifying his status as a bonafide action star through his performance in Snake Eyes.
Golding Open to Returning as Snake Eyes

Although neither Paramount nor Hasbro has contacted Golding about repeating his character as Snake Eyes, the actor is excited and ready for another opportunity to portray the role.
Golding expressed his sentiment by saying, “I’d really enjoy if it happened again. I believe there was a lot of untapped potential. The character and the world are fantastic, so I truly hope they revive it for the fans’ sake, even if I don’t need to be part of it.
Golding’s decision to step back from the franchise seems contrary to our hopes as fans, longing to see him return to action. Despite its imperfections, the action in Snake Eyes showcased an enticing blend of Eastern and Western martial arts techniques, making it a delight for both G.I. Joe enthusiasts and action movie aficionados alike.
Ever since his breakout role as Nick Young in the blockbuster “Crazy Rich Asians” back in 2018, Henry Golding has demonstrated versatility as an actor, venturing beyond romantic comedies into darker territories like A Simple Favor and action-packed roles akin to Snake Eyes, such as The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. In his latest project, he portrays Tuah in “The Old Guard 2”. Here, Golding takes on the role of an old friend of Andy (Charlize Theron) and her band of immortal warriors. This group could potentially hold the secrets to their eternal life’s enigma.
The Old Guard 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
