Game of the Year: #2 – Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Wow, Death Stranding 2 is everything I hoped it would be! After all the drama with Konami and Metal Gear, it feels like this is what Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions were working towards the whole time. It takes everything that was good about the first Death Stranding – the amazing story, the incredible graphics, even the… package delivery! – and just makes it even better. It really feels like the definitive experience.

This game takes the best parts of the first one, simplifies them, and then adds new and improved features for a better overall experience.

The final product is just as captivating and rewarding, featuring stunning cutscenes that deliver another wildly imaginative story from Hideo Kojima. The gameplay is also excellent, with intricate delivery missions and significantly better combat.

Continuing the story from the first game, Sam Bridges now travels through Mexico and Australia to reconnect the world and its people. As you’d expect from Kojima Productions, the game features a uniquely bizarre and compelling story, with both familiar and new characters. Many critics are already calling it one of the best narratives of 2025.

The game builds on everything players loved about the first installment, offering a noticeably improved experience. You’ll find more ways to get around, more items to use, new characters to meet, and much more satisfying combat – all seamlessly woven between exciting story moments.

As a fan, I’m really excited about how they’ve revamped the combat in Death Stranding 2! Sam can seamlessly switch between sneaking and shooting, and both feel really solid and give you a lot of ways to deal with enemies and BTs. The first game’s combat felt a little weak at times, but this feels so much more polished and consistent overall. It’s exactly the level of quality I’ve come to expect from Kojima Productions. It sounds like the team is moving on to other projects after this, which is understandable, but they’re leaving the series as one of the best games on the PS5, in my opinion.

When Kojima Productions releases a new game, the entire video game world pays attention. Their next title, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, coming in 2025, promises a beautifully crafted story and unique gameplay. No other studio creates experiences quite like it.
