Game of Thrones: 7 Things That Still Don’t Make Sense About Season 8

As a huge TV fan, I remember when Game of Thrones first hit the airwaves – it was an instant phenomenon! From the very first episode, everyone was hooked. It was just such a gripping show, with its dark fantasy world, intense drama, and non-stop action. Honestly, it became more than just a show; it was a total cultural moment. For years, Game of Thrones wasn’t just popular, it felt like everyone was talking about it, and for good reason – it really was one of the best shows ever made, which is why the final season was such a letdown.

The final season of Game of Thrones is widely considered one of the most disappointing in television history. While some fans don’t think it was quite as bad as others claim, most agree it was a letdown after such a great show. Regardless of the season’s overall quality, the final episodes left many viewers with unanswered questions, confusing plot points, and frustratingly illogical moments.

7) Why It Abandoned So Many Plot Threads

A major source of disappointment with the ending of Game of Thrones is that many storylines were left unfinished. Plots involving Dorne were simply dropped, and important questions about Drogon and the Red Priests – including Melisandre’s prophecies – were never answered. This feels especially frustrating because the show was incredibly popular and could have easily continued for another season or two. Instead of rushing to an end, the show could have allowed the story to unfold more naturally, even after surpassing the books by George R.R. Martin.

6) Why Sam Became Grand Maester

Samwell Tarly was a fan favorite on Game of Thrones and ended up playing a key role in the story. However, his promotion to Grand Maester in the final season felt completely unearned. He hadn’t finished his training and had a history of breaking his vows, making him an unlikely and arguably poor choice for the position. Despite being a likable character, his past actions suggested he’d be more of a hindrance than a help.

5) The Connection Between the Three-Eyed Raven & the Night King

One of the most disappointing parts of Game of Thrones‘ final season was how it handled the connection between the Three-Eyed Raven and the Night King. The show hinted at a relationship between these two characters, but never fully explained it. Given that fans developed much more interesting theories, it was frustrating that the show didn’t explore this connection in a satisfying way.

4) Daenerys’ Ending Didn’t Match Her Character Arc

Daenerys Targaryen had one of the strongest character arcs throughout most of Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, the final season drastically changed that with an ending that felt illogical given her previous journey. After a lifetime of hardship and fighting for liberation, she gained a devoted following. Therefore, her sudden turn to extreme violence was shocking and didn’t align with the established path of her story.

3) Bran Is The Worst Choice To Rule The Six Kingdoms

Bran Stark’s journey in Game of Thrones was surprisingly crucial, culminating in his unexpected ascension to the throne of the Six Kingdoms. However, many viewers strongly disagreed with this choice, and with good reason. After becoming the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran lost much of his human connection, showing little empathy or personal warmth. What’s more, he appeared to foresee the destruction of King’s Landing by Daenerys but didn’t intervene, effectively making him partly responsible for the massive loss of life.

2) Jon Snow’s Exile

Once Jon Snow’s Targaryen heritage was revealed, many viewers expected him to be the one to unite the Seven Kingdoms. However, the final season took a different path, sending him into exile in the North. Given that he was a key figure in achieving peace after Daenerys’ death – and essentially the last major hero left – it didn’t make much sense for him to be exiled; it felt like a decision made purely for the sake of the story, rather than based on logical character development.

1) The Night King’s Death Should Have Been The Show’s Ending

I always thought the episode where the Night King finally fell was one of the most incredible battle sequences Game of Thrones ever did. But honestly, it felt like it should have been the very end. Defeating the White Walkers was such a massive victory, and then to have the show continue just to figure out who would rule Westeros felt…wrong. It really took the wind out of the finale for me, because it didn’t make sense to deal with the bigger threat first and then move on to the politics. It just felt backwards, and it’s a big reason why the ending didn’t quite land for me.
