Fans of Game of Thrones, get excited! HBO has announced that two spin-off shows will be back for another season.
HBO has renewed both of its popular fantasy series: House of the Dragon will return for a fourth season, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been picked up for a second season even before its first episodes air.
Casey Bloys didn’t confirm if season 4 will be the last for House of the Dragon, but indicated the decision rests with showrunner Ryan Condal, who has suggested a four-season plan for the series.
We usually let the showrunners decide when a series should end. We collaborate with them throughout the season to see if it feels like a natural conclusion. I don’t have any news on that right now, but I’ll share updates when I do, according to Bloys.
House of the Dragon, starring Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Matt Smith, is a prequel to Game of Thrones, taking place around 200 years earlier and focusing on the Targaryen family. Filming for season 3 has finished, and it’s expected to be released in summer 2026.
The upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, appears to be a more lighthearted story set in the world of Game of Thrones. Taking place roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, it centers on the journeys of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a wandering knight, and his companion, Aegon Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell).

I’m hearing that George R.R. Martin seems much happier with the way they’ve turned ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ into a show, especially after he voiced some concerns about ‘House of the Dragon’. It’s good to see he’s pleased with this adaptation!
He wrote on his blog that the new series stays very true to the original material, as much as anyone could expect.
Okay, so I’ve finally watched all six episodes – I got to see the last two as early cuts, which was cool! Honestly, I was blown away. I’ve always been a huge Dunk and Egg fan, and the actors we cast as them are just phenomenal. The whole cast is fantastic, actually. You guys are going to love the characters of the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall when you finally meet them – seriously!
He explained that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is based on ‘The Hedge Knight,’ the first story he wrote in that series. He believes it’s a very accurate adaptation – and, he jokingly added, he’s known for being particularly strict about staying true to his source material.
Meanwhile, various other Thrones spin-offs are also in development, so fans won’t be left wanting.
