Actress Sophie Turner, famous for her roles in ‘Game of Thrones‘ and ‘X-Men’, has officially been cast as Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series, titled “Tomb Raider”. The production is set to commence in January 2026. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her work on shows like ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Killing Eve’, will be the creator, writer, and an executive producer, along with Chad Hodge. Renowned director Jonathan van Tulleken, recognized from ‘Top Boy’ and ‘Shogun’, has been confirmed to lead the project.
In her announcement, Sophie Turner expressed her excitement about portraying such a renowned character, stating, “It’s an honor to take on this iconic role, although it feels like enormous footsteps to follow, given the remarkable performances of Angelina and Alicia. However, with Phoebe in charge, we (and Lara) are confident that we’re in capable hands. I can barely contain my enthusiasm for you all to witness what we’re working on.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge went on to say: “It’s not every day you get to create a show of this magnitude with a character you adored growing up. Everyone involved is incredibly passionate about Lara, and they all embody her boldness, wit, and humor just as fiercely. So, gather your artifacts… Croft is here!
The Tomb Raider series is being developed to preserve its historical significance and offer exciting new experiences for fans globally. Last year, there were rumors suggesting Sophie Turner could play Lara Croft, with Amazon reportedly discussing this potential collaboration. Given Amazon’s successful adaptation of Fallout into a TV show, there’s anticipation that the same high-quality standard will be maintained in their Tomb Raider production.
