Kit Harington and Sophie Turner, known for their roles in Game of Thrones, reunited on screen in the new horror film, The Dreadful. You can now watch it on demand or catch it in select theaters.
In The Dreadful, Anne, played by Turner, battles for survival under the control of her overbearing mother-in-law, Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden). The arrival of a man from Anne’s past, returning from war, unleashes a dark curse with the potential to ruin everything. Set during the 15th-century War of the Roses, the film was released in theaters by Lionsgate on February 20th and is now also available to rent or buy digitally.
Sophie Turner & Kit Harington Discuss ‘Weird’ Game of Thrones Reunion
Though much of the movie The Dreadful is filled with mystery and horror, one aspect stood out as particularly strange for two former Game of Thrones stars. Sophie Turner recently discussed on Late Night with Seth Meyers how odd it felt to film romantic scenes with Kit Harington, considering they had played siblings for years on the popular HBO series based on George R.R. Martin’s novels.
I sent the script to Kit, and he messaged me back saying he’d be happy to do it, but that it was going to be really awkward, according to her. When I actually read the script, it was just a lot of kissing and sex scenes, and then it hit me – my brother wrote this!
Despite their history on Game of Thrones, the two actors managed to move past it for this new project, though things were still a bit uncomfortable. As Turner explained, they tried to ignore their past, but when it came time to film their first kiss, both of them felt sick. She described the experience as truly awful and the worst kiss they’d ever had.
Kit Harington recently told E! News that reuniting with Rose Leslie on set was a pleasant experience. He jokingly admitted it was a little awkward having to stand on a box to kiss her – she’s a foot taller than him – but overall, he felt he maintained his composure.
Critics & Audiences Are Divided Over The Dreadful
Though it just recently came out in theaters and for streaming, people are already strongly divided on the new film, The Dreadful. Currently, it has a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews from 26 critics. Many reviewers found it dull and unmemorable, even though it brought Kit Harington and Rose Leslie back together on screen.
Despite limited audience feedback on Rotten Tomatoes—currently under 50 reviews—viewers seem to be enjoying the film more than critics. Several have highlighted its beautiful visuals, impressive costumes and sets, and strong performances from the cast. It’s still early to tell if this positive response will continue as more people see the movie.
You can now watch The Dreadful in select cinemas and digitally rent or buy it. It’s not yet available on streaming services, and there’s no date for that release yet.
