Game of Thrones’ Tyrion Lannister Is Going To Die in the Books, Teases GRRM (But Another Fan-Favorite May Now Live)

As a huge fan of the Game of Thrones books and show, I’ve been following what George R.R. Martin’s been saying about the whole adaptation process. Apparently, he really hoped the show would stick closely to his novels, but he admits he didn’t write fast enough. That meant the show eventually had to finish the story without his finished books, which is a big reason why so many fans (and even him!) were unhappy with how it all ended. And get this – he’s hinted that when he does finally finish the Ice and Fire series, he’s planning on killing off even more characters! It sounds like we’re all in for a wild ride, and probably a lot of heartbreak.

George R.R. Martin recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he would have preferred a darker ending for the HBO series. He felt the show strayed from his original vision and featured too many characters surviving. Martin admitted he had planned to kill off more fan favorites, stating, “I was going to kill more people.” He specifically mentioned that he didn’t believe Tyrion’s story deserved a happy resolution, as it was always meant to be tragic. He also considered killing Sansa, but acknowledged her popularity on the show might have saved her.

The big question now is when we can expect the next book. During a recent interview, George R.R. Martin recounted a disturbing encounter at a fan convention where someone told him he needed to find another author to finish his work, implying he didn’t have much time left. Martin was clearly upset by this, stating he didn’t need to hear such comments. Despite the pressure, he’s still actively writing. He plans to continue the Dunk and Egg series and work on another book in the Fire and Blood saga. He also feels a sense of urgency to finish The Winds of Winter in the near future, admitting he’s significantly behind schedule on all his projects.

George R.R. Martin Continues to Sour on HBO Adaptations

George R.R. Martin has expressed some dissatisfaction with HBO recently, even becoming frustrated with the showrunner of House of the Dragon. He also didn’t seem thrilled with the way Game of Thrones concluded, though many fans were more upset by how quickly the final season wrapped up. Martin hints that when he finally finishes his book series, readers might be disappointed again, as he plans to kill off numerous characters and doesn’t foresee a cheerful outcome for Westeros.

George R.R. Martin feels disconnected from the current direction of House of the Dragon, and also believes the original Game of Thrones series strayed from his initial vision. He was taken off the production team in season two, though later brought back on, a situation he’s not at liberty to discuss. While this suggests some tension between Martin and HBO, their relationship is currently amicable. It remains to be seen how things will stand between them once he completes the final installment of the Game of Thrones story.
