Gang of Dragon Studio’s Website Has Been Taken Offline

So, it looks like things are really over for Gang of Dragon. A few weeks ago, their YouTube channel disappeared, and now the whole Nagoshi Studio website is gone too. People over on Reddit noticed it, and it confirms those rumors from a few months back – NetEase pulled the funding, so it’s pretty much confirmed the game isn’t happening.

The studio was developing a game called Gang of Dragon. Although they haven’t officially said anything, the recent removal of their website and YouTube channel suggests the project has been cancelled or temporarily paused while director Toshihiro Nagoshi seeks additional funding.

The studio still has an active X (formerly Twitter) account, though it hasn’t been updated recently. The last post was on February 17th, announcing that the trailer for Gang of Dragons had reached 650,000 views. The game’s Steam page also remains unchanged, except for an update on April 3rd which added higher-resolution banner images, according to SteamDB.

Recent reports suggest NetEase cancelled funding for Gang of Dragon because the game was exceeding its budget. It’s claimed the studio needed an extra ¥7 billion (about $44 million) to finish and release the game. If Toshihiro Nagoshi wanted to continue working on it, he would have had to purchase the game’s intellectual property and assets from NetEase Games.

Gang of Dragon was planned as the debut project for Nagoshi’s new studio, established in 2022 after he left Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the team behind the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series.

Launching his studio, Nagoshi explained that being a creator is tougher than ever. However, he believes that what people truly want from entertainment remains constant. Entertainment allows people to envision their dreams, find hope during hard times, feel comforted when they’re struggling, and amplify their joy when things are good. Ultimately, entertainment inspires and fuels all sorts of experiences.

People have always loved to be entertained, and that hasn’t changed. While how we enjoy entertainment has evolved – with more options available at a faster pace – the core desire for it remains constant. To truly connect with audiences, creators need to approach their work with dedication, focus, and a commitment to achieving the best possible result.

The game Gang of Dragon was first shown at The Game Awards 2025 in December. The trailer introduced Shin Ji-seong, the main character, who will be portrayed by actor Ma Dong-seok. The game’s story centers on a Korean gang and the criminal world of Tokyo, and is expected to be largely set in Tokyo’s Kabukichō district.
