Gayle King Reacts to Ex-Husband Apologizing Again for Cheating

Gayle King is happy to let bygones be bygones.

The CBS news anchor responded to a renewed apology from her former husband, William Bumpus, regarding an affair he had with a family friend in the 1990s. This came after Gayle King recently spoke about the infidelity on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

Gayle told TMZ on May 28th that she was surprised they were able to get an interview with him. She was amazed they even found him, and even more surprised that he agreed to talk, since he’s usually very private. She added that she appreciated his comments.

William, who was married to 71-year-old Gayle for 11 years before they divorced in 1993, recently issued a long statement expressing his remorse for having an affair. This is the second time in ten years he’s publicly apologized for this.

Acknowledging that Gayle had every right to discuss a difficult time in her life, William told TMZ he’s deeply thankful to his ex-wife for their two children, 40-year-old Kirby Bumpus and 39-year-old William Bumpus Jr., whom he considers wonderful gifts.

William shared that Gayle was his biggest supporter during law school at Yale. They also made a conscious decision to prioritize their children – and now grandchildren – and successfully co-parented from the start. He said the love and friendship they built through that experience has lasted throughout the years.

He stated that their relationship is still positive, and he thanked Gayle for her support of his teenage daughter, Poet.

William, who described himself as a private person, acknowledged that he found it difficult to adjust to the public attention during their marriage. However, he emphasized that this had nothing to do with Gayle’s skills and talent, stating he was proud to witness her success and continues to be a devoted fan.

Gayle, for her part, affirmed that she and William have long buried the hatchet.

She told TMZ that a lot of time has passed, and they’ve both moved on and healed. That’s why she feels comfortable talking about it now – she and the other person are both in good places in their lives.

She openly shared the story with Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy about discovering William and a friend having an affair at their house.

Although Gayle hadn’t intended to revisit that time in her life, she’s been moved by the positive reaction since the interview was published.

What’s been most impactful for me is how other women have responded – that’s touched me more than anything else. I want them to understand that facing this is a shared experience, and while it’s something no one wants to go through, you can get through it and be truly alright on the other side.

Rumors circulated among fans that Savchenko and his Dancing With the Stars dance partner, Chrishell Stause, were having an affair, but both of them denied the allegations.

Savchenko addressed his wife’s accusations by stating that his relationship with Chrishell has always been purely friendly. He clarified that their friendship during their time on Dancing with the Stars didn’t cause their separation, explaining that he and Elena had been experiencing marital problems for a while, and the timing was simply unfortunate.

Savchenko and Samodanova—who share daughters Olivia and Zlata—finalized their divorce in October 2021.

Okay, so, I’ve been following this whole thing with Adam Levine and it’s just…wow. Basically, Sumner Stroh came forward last September, claiming she and Adam had been seeing each other for over a year! And get this – she said he even wanted to name his baby after her! He totally denied having an affair, but then admitted he messed up big time, saying he made some really bad choices and crossed a line.
