Genshin Impact Confirms Anime Production in Latest Update

After four years with no updates, they’ve finally revealed the status of the anime adaptation that was originally announced in 2022.

According to Aquaria, a combat designer for the game, the Genshin Impact anime series is still being made and is moving forward well. She shared this update at Genshin FES 2026 in Shanghai, China, despite the fact that there haven’t been any news about the project for almost five years. Unfortunately, there’s no confirmed date yet for when the anime will be released.

Aquaria assured fans at Genshin FES 2026 that the anime adaptation is moving forward smoothly. She confirmed that development is on track with no major problems. Ufotable, the animation studio known for Demon Slayer, is still working on the Genshin Impact anime.

Genshin Impact Confirms the Fate of Anime Production

Before officially confirming the Genshin Impact anime is still being made, Aquaria revealed some interesting details about how the game is developed. The combat designer explained that even small updates, with just a few new features or bug fixes, usually take at least six months to create. Larger updates, with more substantial changes, often take a year and a half, or even longer.

Creating Genshin Impact takes a significant amount of time because of all the details involved. This includes things like filming scenes for conversations and cutscenes, designing characters, making revisions based on feedback, recording and rerecording voiceovers, and all the necessary programming. These steps, and many others, mean each update takes much longer than the six weeks some players might think.

Creating anime, whether it’s based on original ideas or existing works, faces similar challenges, like those seen with popular series or even projects still in the planning stages. This is particularly difficult when adapting mobile games into anime. Mobile games often have endless, constantly expanding storylines and a huge number of characters that are always being added, making it hard to create a satisfying and complete anime adaptation.

Top Open-World Anime RPG Has Changed Since Anime Announcement

Even so, four years is a significant amount of time, and a lot has happened since Ufotable announced they were working on the Genshin Impact anime. The game’s world has grown considerably since it began with just Mondstadt, and the publisher, Hoyoverse, has released other popular anime-style action RPGs, with even more games in development.

Since the huge success of Demon Slayer, especially with the movie Mugen Train released in 2020-2021, Ufotable has significantly shifted its focus. Now, the studio is entirely dedicated to finishing the series with a three-part anime film series that began with the 2025 release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

As a huge Demon Slayer fan, I’m constantly checking for news about future movies! Right now, there hasn’t been an official announcement about what’s coming next. There was a rumor going around for a bit about something specific, but it turned out to be incorrect – the news source actually updated their story to clarify that detail.
