George Clooney Is Always Good For A Batman Joke, But The Time He Trolled This Interviewer May Take The Cake

If you ask Batman fans to name the best Batman movie, you’ll get a long debate with many different answers. But if you ask them which one is the worst, almost everyone will agree it’s Batman & Robin, the one with George Clooney. In fact, even George Clooney himself admits it wasn’t a very good movie, unless he’s jokingly pretending it’s a hidden gem.

Clooney, who stars in the upcoming Netflix movie Jay Kelly with Adam Sandler, was recently talking to IMDb when he was asked if there was a single credit that he felt he should be most known for. He jokes that the answer is Batman & Robin, which leaves the interviewer stuttering in response. It’s a pretty hilarious exchange. Check it out below.

Most people agree George Clooney knows his Batman performance wasn’t a hit, and he doesn’t really disagree with that assessment. However, he’s known for his sense of humor and seems to enjoy playfully teasing interviewers by occasionally claiming he was the best Batman. To be honest, if he said that to me, I’d probably just let him have it.

Although Batman & Robin wasn’t a successful film, I think George Clooney’s performance as Batman deserves some credit. The movie was intentionally made to be more lighthearted and campy than previous Batman films, and Clooney clearly understood that direction. While many viewers didn’t enjoy that change in tone, it’s unfair to criticize Clooney’s acting based on the movie’s overall failings; he did a good job with what he was given.

Despite its star power, Batman & Robin didn’t resonate with audiences, effectively ending that film series. Batman then took a hiatus before being successfully rebooted with Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. Since then, live-action Batman films have largely avoided humor, sticking mostly to darker tones. It seems unlikely we’ll ever see a campy Batman movie again—and, as the following video suggests, that might be a good thing.

George Clooney did reprise his role as Batman, though briefly and without his usual costume, in The Flash. This cameo was unexpected and played for laughs, as many considered Clooney the least likely actor to return to the part.

It’s still too early to say if George Clooney will always be considered the worst Batman. Robert Pattinson has been well-received in the role so far. Eventually, a new Batman will be cast for the official DC Universe, but it’s currently unknown when that will happen.
