George Clooney Is Open to Reuniting With ‘ER’ Co-Star Noah Wyle on ‘The Pitt’

George Clooney, famous for movies like Ocean’s Eleven, From Dusk till Dawn, and Burn After Reading, first became a household name playing Dr. Doug Ross on the TV show ER. He’d acted before, in various TV shows and smaller films, but ER was the role that really launched his career. The show also helped make Noah Wyle well-known, years before he won an Emmy for his work on the 2025 HBO Max series The Pitt. Clooney has hinted at the possibility of working with Wyle again, potentially on The Pitt. Could Dr. Ross join Dr. Robby in the emergency room? Clooney says it’s possible.

While walking the red carpet for his new movie, Jay Kelly, George Clooney chatted with Entertainment Tonight about revisiting his role on ER. He said he’d happily reprise his character alongside Julianna Margulies, but confessed he hasn’t actually asked her to appear on The Pitt. Despite leaving ER after five seasons, Clooney and Margulies remain close friends.

I haven’t really spoken to him about being part of the show – it’s his baby, and I didn’t want to overstep. But honestly, I’m incredibly proud of him, if that’s okay to say! It’s just such a wonderful show, and it’s been amazing to see how successful it is. It’s great that he’s continuing this fantastic legacy.

Several months ago, George Clooney praised Brad Pitt and his work on the show, saying they’ve been close friends ever since they first worked together on the pilot. He described Pitt as a truly honorable and talented person, and as an experienced actor, Clooney shared his happiness for Pitt’s success, adding that the show itself is wonderful and Pitt performs brilliantly in it.

Season one of The Pitt premiered on Max in January 2025 and was immediately praised by critics. The show’s realistic style, combined with strong emotional depth and a sense of urgency, perfectly suited its weekly release format. The acting was particularly impressive, and it quickly became a favorite to win awards. At the Primetime Emmys, The Pitt took home several honors, including awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Noah Wyle), and Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Katherine LaNasa).

It wasn’t long before a second season was announced. Creator R. Scott Gemmill wanted a faster production schedule, which is unusual for most streaming shows. Filming for Season 2 of The Pitt began immediately after Season 1 finished, meaning it will return to screens just one year after its initial release. The new season of the medical drama premieres on HBO Max on January 8, 2026, and will follow another busy shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
