Ghost of Yotei Is Sony’s Biggest PS5 Launch Since Spider-Man 2 in Europe

Ghost of Yotei, the latest historical sandbox from Seattle studio Sucker Punch, is crushing it.

Recent sales figures from Europe, combining both physical and digital sales, show the new game is performing similarly to Ghost of Tsushima. It’s important to note that Ghost of Tsushima launched when there were significantly more PlayStation 4 owners and during the peak of the pandemic.

This is Sony’s most significant new PS5 game since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, though some might say the lack of other major releases makes that an easy claim.

In its first week, the game sold more copies than titles like Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and Helldivers 2. It’s important to note that Helldivers 2 later became incredibly popular on both PlayStation 5 and PC.

Even though Ghost of Yotei performed well, EA Sports FC 26 remained the best-selling game in Europe for the week ending October 5th, as expected.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles also debuted in the top ten this week.

The recent Steam Autumn Sale, with its heavily discounted software, significantly affected overall unit sales. For example, DOOM: Eternal saw an over 8,000% increase in sales after being offered at a very low price.
