Just a reminder that Ghost of Yotei Legends releases tomorrow, March 10th, 2026! The developers at Sucker Punch seem to have gone above and beyond with this new multiplayer expansion.
Just like the free Legends update for Ghost of Tsushima, this new content is going to be available to everyone who already owns the game, which is awesome! Seriously, considering how much stuff you get, it’s a really generous move.
Interestingly, Legends was developed at the same time as the primary game.
According to lead designer Darren Bridges in a PS Blog post, the team was initially focused on making the game work with multiple players, constantly adjusting and integrating the different systems. As development on the original game slowed down, they shifted their attention to Legends, which allows for quick progression and upgrades.
Ghost of Yotei Legends revisits the core story of the game, but presents it as a fantastical myth.
The game features six massive boss characters, known as the Yotei Six. Unlike typical games where you battle strong leaders, here you fight enormous, demonic creatures – some are fifteen feet tall! This design allows for engaging battles that are well-suited for groups of players, according to Bridges.
Beyond the main bosses, you’ll encounter their supporting enemies and mini-bosses, each designed to match the theme of the boss they serve. For instance, the Kitsune boss has a powerful subordinate called the Snow Woman, who uses ice and cold-based attacks.
As a player, I love that there are a bunch of different classes to choose from! Each one is really good with certain weapons and has its own unique skills you can unlock. But the best part? You aren’t locked into using only those weapons – I can still equip whatever I like and play how I want!
The PlayStation Blog confirmed that you can play every mission in Legends as many times as you want. How challenging the mission is affects the rewards and experience points you earn. You’re free to adjust the difficulty to your liking, and can use any gear you prefer – even if it’s stronger, weaker, or exactly what’s recommended.
Legends will feature tons of cosmetic items and unlockable content, and the great thing is you can earn everything simply by playing – there are no season passes or extra costs. According to Bridges, all of this is available to owners of Ghost of Yotei completely free, and is unlocked through normal gameplay.
The game features several mission types – Story, Incursion, and Survival – each with unique goals. These missions will focus on six key characters known as the Yotei Six, while the final two will be part of a larger, more challenging Raid that will be added after the game launches.
This upcoming mission is particularly challenging and designed for a team of four players. According to the developers, while most other missions in the game can be completed solo or with fewer players, this one absolutely requires four people to succeed. They emphasize that you won’t be able to win without a full team.
Sounds like a challenge to us.
Plus, the game’s social space is more interactive now. You can challenge other players to a bamboo-cutting game, and also compete in Zeni Hajiki, the coin-flicking game you may remember from Yotei.
This feels like a huge update – the kind they could have easily sold separately. Considering how great the ‘Tsushima Legends’ expansion was, we’re confident this one will be just as good.
