In Season 5 of Ghosts, a significant event occurs: Isaac Higgintoot is elected Vice Ghost Representative in Episode 17, potentially setting the stage for new storylines in Season 6. CBS has renewed the popular comedy for another season, ordering a full 22 episodes. However, the show’s ratings suggest it may be starting to lose some momentum.
Following the merger of Paramount Global and Skydance Media and subsequent budget reductions, the popular comedy Ghosts will shift to the mid-season schedule in the 2026-2027 TV season. A new comedy created by the same team behind Ghosts, called Eternally Yours, will premiere in its place this fall. While Season 6 of Ghosts will include Halloween and Christmas specials, the remaining episodes won’t air until 2027.
Isaac Higgintoot Finally Holds Public Office In Ghosts Season 5
In the seventeenth episode of Ghosts Season 5, the ghosts hold an election to choose their new leader. While the role isn’t as important as it used to be – the ghosts now all connect with Sam (Rose McIver) who can see them after her accident – Isaac is determined to win and has been working very hard to get the position.
Isaac lost the initial election to a surprisingly clear-thinking ghost from the upstairs area. He then tried to gain support from the ghosts in the basement. While Isaac won the basement election, he ultimately lost the overall election to Flower, who received a surge of last-minute votes from a group of cult-affiliated ghosts.
Flower recognized Isaac’s potential and gave him a real job. After proving herself capable, she asked Isaac to handle public appearances and networking – essentially becoming her second-in-command. This finally gave Isaac a meaningful role after years of career setbacks.
This is a landmark moment, as it’s the first time someone with Higgintoot’s background has achieved a democratically elected office. While Higgintoot served as a member of the Continental Congress and a Captain during the Revolutionary War, his contributions were overshadowed by being removed from the Declaration of Independence signing and his unfortunate death from dysentery after the surrender at Fort Ticonderoga, leaving him with a limited legacy.
Isaac’s Accomplishment Prompts Massive Changes For Ghosts Season 6
For years, Isaac was either a minor historical detail or just a character in a vampire novel. Now, he has a chance to truly make a difference. However, this change could significantly alter the show, as it might conflict with the established rules and history that shape the characters’ lives, and even what happens to them after death.
Sam and her husband, Jay, inherit a grand mansion called Woodstone with plans to open a bed-and-breakfast. But after Sam is injured, her goals change. She decides to help the resident ghosts find peace and move on to the afterlife – a process they can achieve once they’ve found fulfillment.
Despite its potential, the show Ghosts hasn’t seen any of its main ghost characters move on yet. Even after Hetty sacrificed herself to save her ex-husband, Pete, the core group of ghosts remains. However, Isaac starting to pursue his life’s dream could potentially change things.
It’s great that the cast of Ghosts has stayed together for five years, but recent developments with Isaac suggest his story might be coming to an end, potentially leading to big changes in Season 6. Higgintoot is a beloved and funny character in Woodstone, but a major character leaving could actually revitalize the show.
