Channel 4 revealed when Gillian Anderson’s new drama will air. The series tells the story of a tragic love affair set during the violent conflict known as the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The film Trespasses, based on Louise Kennedy’s novel, is set in 1975 Belfast. It stars Anderson as Gina Lavery, the mother of a vibrant young woman named Cushla, played by Lola Petticrew (known for her roles in Bloodlands and Say Nothing).
Channel 4 describes the story as follows: While working a night shift at her family’s pub, serving a variety of customers including soldiers, schoolteacher Cushla meets Michael, a married Protestant man who is older than her.
Tom Cullen shines as Michael, a character who immediately captivates Cushla by surprisingly defending individuals accused of IRA involvement and associating with a lively, artistic group of friends.
Despite knowing a relationship between them would be disastrous, Cushla and Michael find themselves powerfully attracted to each other. In a dangerous environment where secrets can be deadly, their forbidden love affair begins and quickly intensifies.
Excited about Trespasses? You won’t have to wait long! Channel 4 will be showing it over four nights in a row, starting Sunday, November 9th, at 9pm and continuing through Wednesday, November 12th.
Ailbhe Keogan, known for her work on Bad Sisters, wrote the screenplay for the TV adaptation of the popular novel. Dawn Shadforth, who directed episodes of Mood and Adult Material, directed the miniseries, which finished filming in Belfast at the end of last year.

The show features a talented cast including Martin McCann, known for ‘Blue Lights’, Oisín Thompson from ‘My Left Nut’, Emily Taaffe of ‘The Rising’, Barry Ward who starred in ‘Bad Sisters’, and Lisa Dwyer Hogg, recognized from ‘The Fall’, alongside Anderson, Petticrew, and Cullen.
Keep an eye out for performances by Lorcan Cranitch, known from Bloodlands, Frank Blake from Normal People, Gary Lydon of The Banshees of Inisherin, and Lalor Roddy who appears in Bodkin.
A suspenseful trailer for the series is available to watch now on YouTube.
Trespasses premieres on Channel 4 on Sunday 9th November 2025.
