PlayStation revealed today that they’re beginning work on remakes of the original three God of War games. This news confirms long-standing rumors that developer Santa Monica Studio was not only revisiting the classic titles – God of War, God of War 2, and God of War 3 – but also creating a new, Metroidvania-style game within the God of War universe. PlayStation made these announcements in a series of recent reveals.
During today’s State of Play presentation, Santa Monica Studio announced they are completely rebuilding the original three God of War games. The project is in the very early stages, so they didn’t show any gameplay footage. TC Carson, who voiced Kratos in the original games, hinted that updates will be scarce for a while, meaning we likely won’t see anything new about the God of War Trilogy Remake for at least a couple of years. However, the announcement itself is thrilling news for God of War fans.

A New God of War Game Is Out Now
PlayStation recently surprised fans by quietly releasing a new God of War game called God of War: Sons of Sparta. The game, which many had heard rumors about, is a 2D action title focusing on a younger Kratos and his brother, Deimos. Developed by Mad Cat Studios, it’s actually the first story in the God of War timeline and promises the series’ signature fast-paced combat, but with a unique visual style.
There’s a lot going on with the God of War franchise right now. Besides the previously released Sons of Sparta and remakes of the original trilogy, a God of War TV series is being developed for Prime Video. Casting is well underway, with Ryan Hurst, Alastair Duncan, Callum Vinson, and Mandy Patinkin joining the cast. While we don’t have a release date yet, filming is planned to start this year, potentially meaning the show could arrive in 2027.
