Recent reports suggest that the upcoming game from God of War‘s Cory Barlog will launch a brand new series within the same fictional world. According to industry sources, the game’s main character will be Faye—Kratos’s late wife, whose death is a key event at the beginning of the 2018 God of War game.
The new game features Faye as the main character, a decision made by NateTheHate. He anticipates a faster-paced, more action-focused experience, diverging from the previous God of War games set in Norse mythology. Shpeshal Nick has added that the gameplay will feel more like Capcom’s Devil May Cry series than either God of War (2018) or God of War Ragnarök.
I’m really excited for the new God of War, but honestly, we still have no idea what mythology it’s going to explore! Seeing Faye’s name pop up makes me think maybe we’ll be back with the Norse gods, but she’s always been pretty independent in the games, so anything could happen. There’s been a lot of talk about Ancient Egypt, and maybe this time we’ll play as someone other than Kratos if that’s where it goes. And to top it all off, we don’t even know when in the timeline the story takes place, so I’m still wondering if we’ll even see Atreus again!
The possibility of a new game series set in the world of God of War emerged earlier this week. Senior writer Lauren Signorino’s LinkedIn profile revealed she contributed to the narrative and creative direction of this new franchise at Sony Santa Monica Studio, focusing on developing characters, storylines, and unique background details that build upon the established God of War story.
Although this description could also fit the new God of War: Sons of Sparta game, Signorino also mentioned that she contributed to the story and overall direction of an upcoming, unannounced God of War project.
Jason Schreier from Bloomberg also shared details on the ResetEra forums, clarifying that this project is what he meant when he previously mentioned Sony Santa Monica was working on a reimagining of an existing game franchise. He had said it wouldn’t be a completely new game, but would feel fresh and different.
According to industry source shinobi602, a new God of War game is likely to be announced this month. The game is being directed by Cory Barlog and is currently planned to release in 2028, with an announcement expected in May or June.
Recent discoveries within the game files of God of War Ragnarök suggest potential storylines for future installments. Data miners found hidden cutscenes that mention several characters, including a conversation between powerful, otherworldly beings discussing Atreus and Odin. One cutscene even hinted at the inclusion of the Egyptian god Ra.
Here’s the latest information: The new game takes place in the God of War universe and features a protagonist named Faye. Unlike the recent Norse-themed God of War games, this one will emphasize action-packed gameplay. The current plan is to announce the game this year and release it in the first half of 2027, though that timeline could change.

This completely lived up to my expectations. I wasn’t aware of any mythological elements – I was told it centered around Faye and featured a lot of action. It sounds more like Devil May Cry than the recent God of War games, based on what I heard.
