A *God of War* TV series is in the works, and some changes from the games might upset fans. *God of War* is a highly respected PlayStation franchise, and following the success of *The Last of Us* adaptation, Hollywood is eager to turn popular video games into movies and TV shows. PlayStation is now adapting more of its games, like the *Horizon* series, and *God of War*. Because fans are so passionate about the *God of War* games, they’re understandably a little worried about how the TV series will turn out.
The upcoming *God of War* TV series has already sparked debate, particularly with its decision to begin the story during the Nordic period of the games. The franchise received a fresh start in 2018, moving Kratos to a new world with a son and a revamped gameplay style – a move that proved very popular. While this reboot was accessible to new players, many believe it’s best enjoyed with knowledge of Kratos’ history from the original games. Some fans are concerned that the show’s apparent omission of this backstory might leave viewers who haven’t played the games with an incomplete understanding.
God of War TV Series May Have a Ton of Sex and Nudity
There’s another potentially surprising development. DanielRPK, a source known for leaking film industry news, shared a casting call that seems to be for a *God of War* project. While all the character names are different to keep things secret, the details strongly suggest it’s related to the *God of War* franchise. The casting call is looking for actors to portray characters like Kratos, Atreus, Odin, Freya, and Baldur, and some intriguing patterns are appearing in the character descriptions.
Casting calls for the roles of Kratos, Freya, and Baldur suggest the actors will need to be comfortable with nude scenes, and Freya and Baldur’s descriptions specifically mention the possibility of simulated sexual activity. This points to a more mature and sexually explicit take on Amazon’s *God of War* series, potentially similar in tone to *Game of Thrones*. While it’s not confirmed, the descriptions suggest full nudity for Kratos is a possibility.
The earlier *God of War* games featured sexual content, even including playable sex scenes. However, the newer installments moved away from this, prioritizing a more complex and thoughtful narrative over gratuitous violence and sex. When players first encounter Freya in the 2018 *God of War*, she is depicted as a solitary figure, and neither she nor Baldur have any on-screen sexual encounters throughout the games.
This hints that the show will explore storylines outside of the games themselves, potentially filling in background details or showing events from perspectives other than Kratos and Atreus, which the games couldn’t offer. Production is expected to start filming in March 2026, meaning we’ll probably see the show premiere sometime in 2027.
Keep in mind that plans can always change, but if this casting call is legitimate, the upcoming *God of War* TV series appears to be heading in a more mature and sensual direction than the last two games. Also, a new *God of War* game is reportedly in the works, and it might take place in Egypt – a setting the developers considered before focusing on Norse mythology.
