While the big-picture Multiverse Saga is heading towards its climax with this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, we first get a more personal story with Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. The series successfully brings back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and his familiar characters, and also introduces heroes from the old Marvel Netflix shows into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s clear audiences are eager for these realistic, street-level adventures, as Season 2 has received strong reviews – a 90% rating from critics and an 88% approval rating from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
The second season of Daredevil centers on the escalating conflict between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who is now the mayor of New York City. Fisk has made vigilantism illegal, and a new task force is attempting to enforce this law – though they aren’t very effective, as Daredevil discovers they’ve only captured one other vigilante. Beyond the main storyline, fans were surprised by a cameo appearance that has now been officially confirmed.
The Watcher Appeared in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Fans first noticed something unusual in the broken window of Fogwell’s Gym – it looked like the silhouette of Uatu the Watcher, a powerful cosmic being from Marvel comics who observes everything happening across the multiverse. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, confirmed on social media that this was intentional, marking the Watcher’s first appearance in live-action within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel has been hinting at the Watcher’s arrival in live-action for some time now. It was revealed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that the traditional Stan Lee cameos were actually a Watcher’s informant traveling through time and observing events. Uatu, the Watcher who monitors Earth, first appeared in animated form in Season 1 of What If…?, and has since made appearances in I Am Groot, X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies.
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is turning out to be unexpectedly important for the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it marks the first live-action appearance of the Watcher. It’s ironic that the Watcher appears in this show, considering his nature is so elusive that even Daredevil’s heightened senses can’t perceive him. While the Watcher sometimes chooses to reveal himself, usually only those with ‘cosmic awareness’ can detect him. His arrival, especially after Vanessa Fisk’s death, suggests major events are coming in the rest of the season.
What the Watcher’s Daredevil: Born Again Cameo Means for the MCU

As a huge MCU fan, it was cool to see Captain Carter from What If…? come to life, but the arrival of The Watcher feels different – way more important. With the Multiverse Saga clearly heading towards Avengers: Doomsday and then the massive Avengers: Secret Wars event, his appearance makes total sense. The Watcher’s whole thing is observing huge, universe-altering events, and let’s be real, he’s not going to sit back and watch the multiverse fall apart without getting involved!
Interestingly, events from Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again now seem to be laying the groundwork for the big finale of the Multiverse Saga. It’s a great example of how the Marvel Cinematic Universe can successfully blend epic, cosmic stories with more personal, street-level narratives – they don’t need to be separate. Now, the big question is whether the Watcher, who has always just observed events, will start to actively get involved. In the comics, the Watcher eventually chose to help Earth against major threats, which led to him being put on trial for breaking the rules against interference.
The Watcher could easily become the next Stan Lee-style cameo in Marvel movies and TV shows, subtly appearing in the background. This would be a fitting role for the character, turning him into a key link between different stories – something he often does in the comics. Because he usually just observes, his rare moments of direct involvement are much more impactful. Marvel could even add him into older films, like the re-release of Avengers: Endgame, perhaps showing him watching Thanos’s defeat.
