Godzilla is famously known as the King of the Monsters. But even after fighting many other giant creatures for decades, it’s difficult to say exactly how strong he is. A comic book battle with the X-Men in *Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #3* provides some specific details about his power.
The third issue of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Paco Medina and Javier Garron, quickly demonstrates just how incredibly strong Godzilla is.
In the last issue, Doctor Strange trapped the giant monster within the Astral Plane. He made this decision because he believed Earth’s heroes couldn’t defeat it in a straight-up fight. Unfortunately, the monster didn’t stay contained for long.
Having defeated countless demons over many years in another dimension, the King of Monsters finally encountered Dormammu. A single burst of his atomic breath forced the giant creature back to Earth. He landed in Madripoor, where he then battled the X-Men, but they weren’t able to defeat him any more successfully than Dormammu had.
Godzilla is more powerful than several X-Men
One interesting detail from the battle is that Godzilla’s tough hide can actually be pierced by Wolverine’s Adamantium claws. However, even Wolverine’s best attacks don’t have much effect on Godzilla. Wolverine himself observes that Godzilla’s healing ability is even stronger than his own, allowing the monster to recover from injuries much faster than Logan can inflict them.
Even with Magneto joining the fight and turning Wolverine into a high-speed, adamantium projectile, Godzilla only stumbles momentarily before quickly recovering. Magneto can defend himself from Godzilla’s atomic breath using a magnetic shield, but the sheer power of the blast still knocks him back.
The scariest moment of the battle happens when Professor X attempts to communicate with Godzilla using his mind. The X-Men’s leader is shocked by what he finds – a deeply troubled and dark mind within the monster. While it’s expected that Godzilla is physically too powerful for the X-Men, his ability to block Professor X’s telepathy is truly surprising, demonstrating just how incredibly strong he is.
