The Golden Bachelor star Mel Owens had some specific parameters for the women cast in season 2.
Mel, aged 66, shared during his June 4 episode on the “MGoBlue” podcast with Jon Jansen that when asked about his preferences, he honestly replied that he prefers individuals ranging from 45 to 60 years old. Later, during lunch with the executive producer, Mel jokingly mentioned that if someone is 60 or older, he might need to exclude them from consideration.
Mel was informed by the executive producer that “Mel, this isn’t ‘The Silver Bachelor’. It’s ‘The Golden Bachelor‘.” He replied, “But they’ll be attractive. Don’t fret over it.
In a previous conversation, the ex-football player added, “He said, ‘You can’t say the word ‘cut.” To which I replied, ‘But that’s a term used in the NFL.’
Us Weekly reached out to ABC for comment.
Mel mentioned that the ladies from his upcoming season, as of now unveiled, are expected to be stunning. However, he had no involvement in choosing them himself.
They inquired about my personal details, and here’s a brief overview: I maintain my fitness through regular exercise, so any potential match should also be health-conscious. Additionally, I prefer authenticity over artificial enhancements such as hip replacements or wigs.
Furthermore, Mel mentioned that he’s seeking an individual who embraces continuous learning and enjoys maintaining fitness, enjoying life, eating well, and possessing energy.
In another part of the podcast, Mel narrated the tale of his participation in ‘The Golden Bachelor’. He disclosed that a friend kept insisting he dial a particular phone number, which eventually connected him to the casting team for the series.

Later on, following a one-hour conversation with someone from the “casting department”, Mel received another call after several days and discovered that his position had advanced in the casting procedure. Eventually, he managed to meet a high-ranking producer, who turned out to be a former student from the University of Michigan.
Later on, it was disclosed that, following some additional get-togethers, Jesse Palmer, the host of “Golden Bachelor,” dropped by Mel’s home to introduce himself to his relatives and share the exciting tidbit that he would soon be gracing the stage as the new star of the show.
Additionally, it was disclosed that throughout the selection procedure, someone inquired about Mel’s motivation for becoming a part of “The Golden Bachelor”.
I enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing the unknown. Moreover, I appreciate your support, and this opportunity is something I truly desire. It’s challenging, time-consuming, and awe-inspiring – all qualities that appeal to me as someone who’s always eager to explore new horizons.
Mel was named the next Golden Bachelor in April.
Growing up in a tightly bonded Midwest family in Detroit, athletic abilities were evident in Owens from his youth. The statement was made back then that this ex-University of Michigan player was chosen as the ninth overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft.
Following nearly a decade with the Los Angeles Rams, Mel chose to hang up his jersey and embark on a new profession in law. He then relocated to Orange County, California, where he’s now deeply committed to assisting people, especially those fighting for fair compensation due to sports-related injuries.
He then met his wife, and the pair welcomed two sons.
After facing unexpected challenges such as his father’s passing and the end of his marriage, Owens dedicated himself to being an exceptional father. He poured his energy into nurturing his sons and coaching their sports teams. Now, following several years of devoted parenthood, Owens is ready to reconnect with a love centered around common experiences – enjoying everyday moments, setting future goals, and building a stronger relationship. As the ‘Golden Bachelor’, he’s excited to meet someone who aligns with this vision and find his ideal partner, the missing piece he’s been seeking in his later years.
