Golden Globes: Why Amanda Seyfried Says Kids Make Choosing Work Harder

Amanda Seyfried knew that in time, her career was going to change.

The actress was thrilled to receive two Golden Globe nominations in 2026 for her roles in The Testament of Ann Lee and Long Bright River. She shared how becoming a mother to Nina, 8, and Thomas, 5, with her husband, Thomas Sadoski, had influenced her choices about which acting jobs to accept.

Amanda recently told director Mona Fastvold during an interview at the Golden Globes that being acknowledged for her work is especially meaningful as she gets older. She explained that making career choices becomes more difficult when it means spending time away from her children, and recognition makes it all worthwhile.

The 40-year-old actress was overjoyed to receive nominations for Best Actress in both a musical/comedy film and a limited-run TV series or movie at the event, hosted by Nikki Glaser. She was especially pleased considering how competitive both categories were.

Rose Byrne joked that one award nomination actually calmed her nerves, which might sound strange, but it was a positive feeling. Byrne won for If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You, while Michelle Williams took home the award for Dying for Sex.

Playing Ann Lee in the movie was a deeply meaningful experience for Amanda, impacting her life in significant ways, both as a person and in her career.

She described the experience as deeply moving, explaining that even singing felt challenging – specifically, hitting the ‘aw’ sound – but she could manage it because she felt physically and emotionally open.
