Gore Verbinski’s New R-Rated Sci-Fi Movie Quietly Becomes American Streaming Success After Record-Breaking Box Office

Gore Verbinski’s sci-fi movie, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, is doing well on streaming platforms after a successful release in theaters.

I was so excited when the director’s new movie came out in February, and it totally blew everyone away! It had a record-breaking opening weekend – the biggest for an English-language film in three years, especially considering it was playing in fewer than 1,700 theaters. And for Briarcliff Entertainment, the company releasing it, it was their biggest opening ever. It was amazing to see!

Since becoming available to stream and rent online, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is doing well – it’s currently ranked at No. 5 on Apple TV’s VOD chart in the U.S. as of March 16th.

Currently, the top four films are The Housemaid, Marty Supreme, Dracula, and Sentimental Value. Completing the Top 10 are One Battle After Another (an Academy Award winner for Best Picture), Anaconda, Hamnet, Greenland 2: Migration, and Shelter.

The movie is currently sixth most popular on Vudu. Internationally, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is the top-ranked film on Prime Video in both Australia and New Zealand.

Gore Verbinski is a highly acclaimed director, famous for his work on the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He’s also directed popular films like The Ring, Rango (which won him an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature), and The Lone Ranger.

In addition to directing, he also produced the film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die alongside Robert Kulzer, Erwin Stoff, Oly Obst, and Denise Chamian. The screenplay was written by Matthew Robinson.

In the movie Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, Sam Rockwell plays a time traveler trying to prevent a disastrous future caused by artificial intelligence. He gets unexpected help from a group of people he meets at a diner.

The film also stars Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Asim Chaudhry, Zazie Beetz, Juno Temple, Tom Taylor, and Georgia Goodman, along with Daniel Barnett, Riccardo Drayton, Anna Acton, Dino Fetscher, Adam Burton, Dominique Maher, and Artie Wilkinson-Hunt.

Following its debut at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, in fall 2025, the film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die hit theaters in February 2026 and earned $8.7 million.

Despite losing money on the $20 million project, the film was still one of Briarcliff’s most successful releases.

The movie Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die has been well-received, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with scores of 83% from critics and 86% from audiences. Reviewers particularly praised director Gore Verbinski’s unique and exciting filmmaking style, calling it both entertaining and original.
