Although a second season of Gravity Falls isn’t currently planned, Disney is creating a new, spooky series that feels similar in spirit. Coming to Disney+ later this month, the show centers around two young characters investigating a potential world-ending event. While details are still emerging, the show’s rating suggests it will be a more intense and perhaps even darker story than the adventures at the Mystery Shack.
Get ready for The Doomies, a new animated comedy coming to Disney+ on June 26th! The series follows friends Romy and Bobby as they uncover a strange conspiracy that unleashes spooky events in their town of Ouimper. Unlike Gravity Falls, The Doomies is rated TV-PG, making it geared towards a slightly older audience. A new trailer is available now, and there’s even a possibility that the show’s first season of twenty-two episodes won’t be the only one!
The Future of The Doomies
At last year’s Annecy Animation Film Festival, Marc du Pontavise, CEO of Xilam Animation and a key figure in the creation of The Doomies, revealed that the show might continue beyond its first season. He confirmed that work on a potential second season is already underway, thanks to Disney’s strong belief in the series and significant investment. Disney was so confident in The Doomies that they asked Xilam to begin early preparations for another season.
Xilam Animation is a French studio known for creating popular animated series. They’ve worked on shows like Oggy & The Cockroaches, Mr. Magoo, Chip ‘n Dale: Park Life, and Netflix’s Twilight of The Gods, among others. While it’s still gaining traction, their latest work has the potential to become as beloved within the animation fan community as Gravity Falls.
As for the future of Gravity Falls, we have yet to hear whether Disney will officially move forward with a sequel series to the story of Mabel, Dipper, and Grunkle Stan. In 2024, Disney executive Meredith Roberts confirmed that there had been discussions with series creator Alex Hirsch, though no news has developed since. Specifically, Roberts stated, “You know, we’re in conversations with Alex. He’s about to publish a book with Disney on his project. And we also do some shorts. So never say never.”
