Grey’s Anatomy Pays Tribute to Eric Dane One Week After His Death

The Grey’s Anatomy family will never forget Eric Dane.

It was so emotional watching Grey’s Anatomy last week. Just a week after Eric Dane, who played the amazing Dr. Mark Sloan (aka McSteamy!), sadly passed away after fighting ALS for a year, the show honored him with a beautiful montage of his best scenes. It really celebrated everything he brought to the series.

As a longtime fan of heartwarming TV moments, I have to say the recent tribute to Mark Sloan was everything. The 60-second clip, which they shared after the show and online, was a beautiful reminder of his best scenes. They highlighted so much – from his funny nickname for himself and Jackson, ‘The Plastics Posse,’ to his sweet friendship with Callie, and even that incredibly touching moment when he walked her down the aisle. Of course, they didn’t forget his unforgettable love story with Lexie. It really brought all the feels!

The video featured Mark’s famous quote: “Tell people you love them. Don’t hold back, even if you’re worried about the consequences or if it might be difficult. Even if you think it could change everything, say it—say it clearly—and then see what happens.”

The emotional tribute was set to a song that always resonates with fans of Grey’s Anatomy: a cover of “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, beautifully reimagined by Tommee Profitt and Fleurie.

The montage concluded with a deeply moving, yet sad, scene: Mark’s return in season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy. He appears to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) on the beach of her dreams and urges her, “Don’t waste one single minute.”

The closing words of the tribute read, “In loving memory of Eric Dane. 1972 – 2026.”
